Select
What standards or LOs were being addressed in the lesson?
How did you cater for learners with special needs, and for differentiation?
How did you use positive reinforcement? Methods? For what?
How did you sequence or scaffold activities so that they built gradually towards the learning
objectives?

This lesson I was aware of having learning objectives that support students learning for
superlatives and help them to differentiate between the comparatives. The learning objectives that
I addressed for my lesson were to identify the superlatives adjectives, to read and underline the
superlative adjectives and to produce and use superlatives in sentences. Furthermore, I did warm
up the lesson with linking their prior knowledge about the comparatives but briefly so they do not
get confused. I explained the superlative meaning and its use to help students identify the
superlatives at the beginning of the lesson. The reading part was for students to differentiate and
be aware of the use of the superlatives and observe their ability and knowledge to figure out the
superlatives. As well as, the questions which were related to the text to evaluate their
understanding of the text. The partner task was to students to support each other and change the
positive adjectives to superlatives and collaborate to think of the correct answer. Moving to the
matching activity, I asked students to find and match the correct phrase then match it to the
correct one to make full sentences. As a sum up, I demonstrated three pictures and asked students
to give me examples using the superlatives and then a board game for the whole class to answer
the questions they have as superlatives. For the homework, I asked students individually to write
three sentences about their favorite things which were a self-assessment to evaluate and check
their understanding of the lesson.

Overall aim and context of the lesson (that is, describe the lesson’s place in the unit of work. What
did students need to know before today’s LOs were addressed? What topic comes next and how did
today’s lesson prepare students for that?)

This lesson took a place after learning the comparatives and how to compare things using
comparative adjectives through two lessons. The superlatives lesson built a bridge to students to
differentiate the comparative use and superlatives to support their skills. Students needed to know
how to compare things, part of speech and long and short adjectives which included in this
lesson. In addition, this lesson brings up another lesson which is the adverts and the use of
adjectives and superlatives to choose the best of many in their advert and write sentences using
the superlatives.

Describe
Who is the lesson for?
Where did the lesson take place?
What were you aiming to achieve in your lesson?
What experiences did you provide to the students to help them to achieve your aims for them?

This lesson was for grade seven students as it took a place at the classroom. For this lesson, I was
aiming to achieve students understanding and differentiating the use of superlatives and the
comparatives. Also, I was aiming to achieve time management to help me manage the tasks time.
And engagement. As I showed them the difference at the beginning of the lesson then focus on
superlatives only. I gave students different tasks to do so they achieve what I was aiming which
is time management, I could manage the class and activities time by setting a time. For the
engagement the activities they had to do, I did demonstrate them on the board then asked them to
do it. However, students were engaged while giving examples from the classroom and at the
board game, most of them were encouraged to play and answer.
Analyze
Were students excited, always occupied, and remained on task during the lesson?
Why do you think the students responded the way that they did?
How well did your teaching relate to the students’ prior understanding?

As I noticed, students were engaged and demonstrated initiative to learn as they kept asking about
the difference and use of superlatives and comparatives. As I showed them at the beginning then I
focused on the superlatives. During the activities, students were excited to learn and use
superlatives in sentences and by giving examples about things in real life and the classroom for
instance, they gave me sentences about the smartest, laziest and craziest girl in the class. It
showed me how they noticed the difference and their understanding of the lesson. I think, they
responded that way because they have real life examples and were encouraged to find other
examples about themselves. In addition, students were familiar with the comparatives and short
and long adjectives which helped them to predict how to use or change the adjectives adding
“est”, “iest” and “the most” to the adjectives. That supported students to scaffold and built to their
prior knowledge.

Appraise
Explain the nature of the experience from the students’ perspective.
Did your lesson meet your teaching goals? Use your students’ performance on the end of lesson
assessment as support (Give proof in your portfolio)

From my monitor and observation during this lesson, I think students were engaged and
motivated to learn about the superlatives and how to use it because they like describing things for
them which are the best or top of something. I noticed that from the examples they gave me for
instance I knew that Halima is the smarts girl in mathematics and other more. Students were
initiative to give other more examples to show their understanding and engagement during the
lesson which I am glad about. I think, my lesson met my teaching goals which I knew when I
noticed students performance and excited about the lesson as the self-assessment which was a
board game. Through the activity, students were motivated to roll the dice and get a question then
use the superlatives with their answers. As I checked their homework, students wrote sentences
choosing the best and top of something and some examples they used during the lesson.

Transform
How might you enhance student learning of this lesson in the future?
What are the implications for your professional practice of helping students to enhance their
learning in this particular way? (i.e. what skill will you have to develop or learn? What professional
development will you have to undertake?)

I think, I might enhance this lesson by giving students in groups real object to use them and give
examples about so they got more engaged and get the knowledge easily for most of the students.
As well as, I could give each group different text which they have to identify the superlatives and
learn from the same text other information for instance about the towers. For myself, I think I
could improve my class management and focus on the group and peers work because some
students neglect the rules and start working alone to finish the task by themselves. Finally, my
performance as a teacher is good but I need to improve my voice tone to suit each situation.
