Engineering turns science and technology into something significant and useful to society.

It
is applied in creating various structures, home appliances and other infrastructures and
equipment, which make human lives safe and convenient. Engineering affects virtually every
aspect of our society and engages a substantial set of the population in carrying out engineer
plans and designs. Engineering is a broad discipline which is often broken down into several
sub-disciplines. Although an engineer will usually be trained in a specific discipline, he or she
may become multi-disciplined through experience. Engineering in society relates civil
engineering with structure. While many people are familiar with the field of civil engineering
in general, civil engineers are often associated solely with the creation of roads, bridges, and
other physical and naturally constructed environmental structures. What some people might
not be aware of is the impact that civil engineering has on transportation and traffic in major
cities across the world. A key role of civil engineers is the maintenance of current existing
roads and infrastructure. Looking for better methods to improve and manage the bridges and
roads already in existence, civil engineers are constantly seeking innovative methods for
reducing traffic, air pollution, and much more. Civil engineer take on the responsibility of
producing designs that will perform as well as expected and will not cause unintended harm to
the public at large. Engineers typically include a factor of safety in their designs to reduce the
risk of unexpected failure. Engineers use their knowledge of science, mathematics, logic,
economics, and appropriate experience or tacit knowledge to find suitable solutions to a
problem. Creating an appropriate mathematical model of a problem often allows them to
analyze it.
