Simple and Potent Metal Detector Circuit

Electronics

As you all know I am a detector enthusiast , I love this hobby because it relaxes and leaves the
mind free from the problems of everyday life. Currently commercial metal detectors are
microprocessed, this facilitates information processing, making it faster and more accurate to
identify and locate metals.

But there are several unprocessed detectors that are successful among those who want to set up
their own metal detectors, including Surfmaster PI and Polish PI , all of PI ( Pulse Induction )
technology. But even these detectors are considered by many to be difficult to make, so I decided
to publish a simpler metal detector version , but with PI technology.

Although many technicians disagree, a PI detector can discriminate if well designed, metal
discrimination depends on a faster sampling rate that is sufficient to accurately detect,
discriminate, or as some say elimination and non-discrimination. .

However, as the sampling rate increases, the consumption also increases, but if microprocessing
the PI detector this consumption can make it viable, this happens in some PI detectors such
as Minelab's GPX line .

Pirate PI Metal Detector

Called Pirate or Pirat Metal Detector, which is short for PI (Pulse Induction)
and Radioskot RAT (РАДИОСХЕМЫ name of a Russian electronics site) is easy to build, to
fit, contains no special components and is very cost effective. .

The Metal detector consists of two main units, a transmitter that uses the NE555 pulse
generator , which is coiled through the IRF740 transistor. The same coil serves as a receiver and
its main component is the TL072, a double operational amplifier.

This detector was originally developed in Russia and later re-designed for western
components. The result was a detector very similar to Surfmaster PI in its principle of operation,
but much simpler and with “almost” the same efficiency.

The metal detector electronic circuit as we talked about is based on
the NE555 and TL072 integrated circuit, but other operational amplifier integrated circuits can
be used, such as the TL082 or TL062. The original integrated circuit is the K157UD2 but the
TL082 replaces without problems.

The metal detector coil

The construction of the metal detector coil is simple, the coil is made of 25 turns of 0.5 mm wire
in a 19 cm shape. With this setting the sensitivity to a 25mm coin is 20 inches. Other coil
configurations can be made from 12 cm circular to a 180 x 180 cm square coil.

Above is a very useful table for building PI metal detector coils, and below is the translation of
the items.

Adjusting the metal detector

If you have an oscilloscope you can monitor the Q3 gate lead pulse duration and the oscillator
frequency. The ideal is 130-150 mks and the pulse rate 120 to 150 Hz. As a power supply you
can use a 9 Volt to 12 Volt battery, and its average consumption is 40 mA.

But even without the oscilloscope, you can adjust by trying to get a better detector range result
when passing a metal object near the coil.
