Introduction of revised Transponder housing.

Identification:

In recent deliveries of UAIS systems a revised housing has been introduced for the UAIS
transponder featuring an additional fan build into this housing to force air flow through the
housing.

It has been noted that the introduction of this revised housing and additional fan, the
description of which was included in the transponder technical manual at an earlier stage,
has created a general interpretation in the field as being a modification to overcome what
is aledgedly believed to be incidents of “over heating” of transponders in the original
housing - this is not the case!!

The addition of the external fan to the new housing has been necessary due to the lower
heat transfer capability of the new sheet metal housing as compared to the original cast
metal housing. Hence the need for forced heat transfer from the interior of the housing.
