METALLURGY
In underground mining there are risks due to the presence of gases, which are found in
the confinement space with the mine personnel.
Within this there are several activities that generate carbonaceous gases, such as the
combustion of equipment, the emanation of explosive gases and the same respiration of
people, which must be controlled according to the established permissible limits.
Development
Nowadays, the regulation establishes that all workplaces must remain in optimal
conditions, both for personnel and equipment, by natural or artificial means.
A ventilation project in the mine, capable of providing fresh air supply and return of stale
air is of utmost importance.
This mining ventilation project consists of:
Main ventilation (natural air).
Auxiliary ventilation (axial and centrifugal).
The fronts of exploitation or development that are distant from the current and the
aeration of said site become slow, ducts or other suitable auxiliary means must be used
in order to produce the continuous renewal of the air.
There is to determine the flow for each activity that will be carried out in the operation
and the pressure drop that the system could have (because the air flow must pass
through the ventilation ducts).
Once this is defined, the fan should be selected both the injection (axial) and the
extraction (centrifugal), the type of duct through which the air flow will pass (minimize the
resistance of the passage), its diameter and the type of couplings and regulators that will
be used to redistribute the flows to each of the places where it is required. This system
consists of a flow rate that by law is 20% for any type of mishaps, such as an internal fire
in a mine.
The axial fans, unlike the centrifugal fans, are suitable when it is required to move a lot of
air flow with a relatively low pressure.
