Abstract
We conduct of tomographic inversion using regional earthquake catalogue data of Papua
region, Indonesia. Tectonics setting of Papua consist of complex structure, due to affecting by
four main tectonic plates, such as: Australian Plate, Pacific Plate, Philippine Plate and the
Eurasian Plate. Earthquake occurred not only because of subduction plate but also activity of
local faults, such as: Sorong Fault, Fault Yapen, and others. We determine the pattern of
tectonic region of Papua, using tomographic method that inverse the travel time data to
determine the velocity and hypocenter relocation simultaneously. Inversion conduct using new
earthquake travel time of the 19 recording station from 2010 to 2015. The result of the
hypocenter relocation of the vertical slices, shows the depth of the earthquake dominated the
shallow depths earhtquake that could be indicating a New Guinea Trench (NGT), while the
images of the P wave velocity structure, show the low anomalous zones at depths of 30-50 km
that indicating an active fault in the region.
