Re: Planning Memo for Flyer/Advertisement

Dr. Wickliff,
Below you will find the planning memo for my client’s Flyer/Advertisement. The client is
Monica Wicker-Ramsey, and the work I will complete in this assignment will be for a workshop
she is hosting for her ministry, ID by Design. She is an author, speaker, songwriter, recording
artist, and certified life coach.
Audience
My audience is Mrs. Wicker-Ramsay’s potential workshop attendees. We will advertise the
workshop through her speaking engagements, TV, radio, podcast, and in-person interviews and
appearances. Additionally, we will promote this flyer and the info on it at retail stores that carry
her book, music agencies that distribute her current CD, ministries she is associated with because
of prior or current affiliations, and current or potential life-coach clients.
Distribution
We will distribute the flyer via face-to-face interactions, bulletin boards at appropriate places to
reach her audience, snail mail, email, a page on her website, at speaking engagements and events
Monica is a part of, Facebook, and other social media outlets.
Cost
The cost will be $87.50 for the first 100, using thicker, more durable premium cover stock. The
price per flyer goes down some as the quantity goes up. We plan on ordering through Vistaprint.
Context/Situation
The flyers will be used by Mrs. Wicker-Ramsay to promote her workshop to potential workshop
attendees, which include those who have already purchased her book or CD, those she has
encountered at speaking engagements and media appearances, coaching clients, and event
participants. The use of the flyer will give her visual representation in places she is likely to have
an audience, and where marketing and advertising her workshop would likely be productive.
Style
• Logo – We will be using the logo that I designed for Mrs. Wicker-Ramsay’s according to her
specifications. It is an updated version of the one I used in the original draft of her business card
and flyer. It is a cross, with the word, “Identity” in the horizontal crossbar, with the words, “ID
by Design” stamped diagonally from bottom-left to top-right (but slightly under the horizontal
crossbar).
• Fonts – The new, updated logo font is Thipe Typeface for the diagonal text, “ID by Design.”
The word, “IDENTITY,” in the crossbar is now font type Austie Bost Matamata. For the flyer
itself, I will use the same font I did on the Business Card & Letterhead, which is Minion Pro,
with some of it being in italics and possibly alternating with a different font.
• Colors – black & gray are her standard colors; she also wants to brand that with magenta and
teal in various shades of each.
• Stock – I plan to use a matte finish, premium stock with Vistaprint. The flyer will have the
same branding color scheme.
• Inks – The ink colors will be alternately, black or gray, with magenta and teal in appropriate
places.
Computing tools
– Microsoft word is where I will begin drafting the text that will appear on the advertising
document I am designing. InDesign is the tool I will use to create the workshop flyer. I will then
send to Vistaprint.
