Reflection Essay
Throughout these couple of months of being in English 101 I have felt like I’ve learned a

lot in multiple areas of writing and also in research when trying to get information for a paper.

As I have developed a better understanding of certain topics in English, I also feel like that it

were some things that I could have worked more on and tried to understand better during this

course. For me I think that having the knowledge of what I took away from this course and what

I haven’t really fully understood yet is going to help me grow as a writer in the future. So for the

future I can learn from what I don’t really understand yet and that I can make strong points for

the information that I have already understood.

For this English course I have completed multiple writing assignments as far as comparing and

contrasting rhetoric stories to writing definition essays. For the writing pieces I had to do over

this course most of them had sort of came simple to me because I had already been familiar with

these types of writings when I was in high school. I also think what allowed me to comfortably

write these essays were what they were written about, since majority of the writing pieces were

very interesting to me. For example some of the writing pieces that interested me was the

definition essay, where you had to write an essay about a single word. Another writing piece that

interested me was the rhetorical analysis essay that asked me to formulate an argument regarding

a single documentary film’s use of rhetoric. For these writing pieces the way that they support to
be written I was familiar with but the ways we had to get the information from for the essay was

different for me which is what made them appealing to me.

Within this course there were not really many major writing pieces that I had to do that were

hard to write but there was one writing piece that I struggled with in this course. I did not only

find trouble with just this one writing piece but during the beginning of this course it took me a

couple of times of looking over some of the subjects that we were going over during this time of

the course. One thing that I had to look over again was the Rhetorical appeals and how they are

used in different writing’s and movies. Projects 2 and 3 were mainly written around rhetorical

components and that was a little difficult for me to write about which is why it took me longer to

complete those writing pieces. Overtime these things I have gotten better with recognizing

rhetorical components in stories and also being more aware of how some of the little things

should be written. For Example me being more aware how thesis statements and citations are

supposed to be written.

After having to take this course and looking back at the work I feel like I could have done better

with my time management and planning out what I had to do during this course. I think that if I

would have had a better planning system then I could have been able to do better on some of the

assignments I had during this course.

In conclusion this was a good course taught by a good teacher and I feel like I have learned and

gotten better with writing. I have also felt like I was able to find more of who I am as a writer as

of my strengths and weaknesses. Throughout the course there were some good and rough points
for me during this course but at the end of the day I was able to take away and understand the

information that was taught from this course.
