ACETANK
Health, Safety and Environmental Management
1) Environmental Awareness
Customer’s concerns are followed, CY facilities and cleaning
requirements for cargoes carried in our ISO Tanks are ensured. Safe
disposal of cleaning substances is followed by our contracted yards, to
prevent detrimental health of the community. AGL takes environmental
safety matters seriously.

A
tank
container
can
be
loaded
and
unloaded
from
the
top
and
the
bottom.
On
a
standard
tank
container
there
is
a
manhole
and
at
least
one
valve
on
the
top,
and
there
is
a
valve
at
the
bottom.
Loading
and
unloading
is
done
by
connecting
hoses
of
the
loading
and
unloading
facility
to
the
valves
of
the
tank.
The
loading
or
unloaded
is
often
done
using
a
pump.
Depending
on
the
installation
and
regulation
of
certain
products,
it
is
determined
how
the
tank
container
should
be
loaded
or
unloaded.
* In 1966, the first commercial production occurred and one year later the first
tank container according to ISO standards was developed. The first mass-
produced tank containers were purchased by Trafpak, a part of Pakhoed.
* In the early 70's, the tank container evolved to its current form and the
production was also well underway. In the early days, production took place in
Europe. In 2010 and afterward, production is mainly in China and South Africa.

1. IMO Type 1 –Portable tank for the transport of classes 3 to 9 fitted with
pressure relief devices.
2. IMO Type 2 – Portable tank fitted with pressure-relief devices intended for the
transport of certain dangerous liquids of low hazard and certain solids.
3. IMO Type 4 - Road Tank vehicle for the transport of dangerous goods of
classes 3 to 9.
4. IMO Type 5 - Portable Tank fitted with Pressure relief devices which is used for
non-refrigerated gases of class 2.0

AFTER LOADING
• Determine the quantity loaded
• Witness the closing of all valves and lids and apply seals if required
by the shipper
ON ARRIVAL AT DESTN
• Examine the integrity of all seals, valves and lids etc.
• Witness the discharge operation, similar in every respect to that
carried out at the load location.
AT DELIVERY
• Ensure that the cargo departs and arrives in good condition, without
quality degradation or quantity loss, is the safe return of the empty
ISO container back to its site of origin.
• The return journey can then commence with the integrity of the empty
tanks ensured.
Flash Spill
* Cause: Opening manhole or hose connection when tank is pressurized, may result
in 'flash spill' of product and lid or cover being thrown.
* Precaution:Examine pressure gauge if fitted and relieve any pressure before
opening man lid or hose connection by carefully opening the air-line valve or cap.
Take care not to vent off dangerous vapours into the atmosphere.
Asphyxiation/Poisoning
* Cause: Entering tank with oxygen depleted or contaminated atmosphere. May cause
poisoning or asphyxiation.
* Precaution: Check cleaning certificate and last cargo. Check tank atmosphere with
appropriate analyzer before entry. If necessary, carry out gas-freeing procedure. A
second person should be stationed outside the manhole with a lifeline to the person
in the tank.
Hose Whiplash
* Cause: Disconnection of hose when the tank is pressurised. This could cause injury
to operatives.
* Precaution: Ensure that tank and hose are depressurized before disconnection.
