INTRODUCTION

Background And Related Studies

Innovation is the process of improving a product, service, or the process itself

from its current state. From the definition itself, we can tell that it is not limited to the

size of business or the business venture you are dealing with. For this reason,

innovation is open for everyone and everything in a business or industry. It adds value

to the services or products that we provide and so we should seek to be innovative in

our business or industry.

This paper deals with the problem of material transport through a hydraulic

system, and a bulk material handling equipment, in which is called “Hydrau-cart”

(Hydraulic push cart). It is a pushcart with hydraulic forklift and a conveyor belt on its

platform. The forklifts are operated by an actuator which lifts the object from below while

the conveyor belt helps handling the object at the end of the platform to vacate the lifter,

for the lifter to carry another object

Carts in general, has been used as far as the second millennia B.C., its history

has been closely tied to the history of wheel, solely for the purpose of transportation of

minerals, materials, animal carcasses, and human passengers. It’s either two or four-

wheeler. In construction, a two-wheeler cart for carrying materials such as cement,

rocks, and debris. For both industrial and commercial based operations, four-wheelers

are commonly used for transporting both packages and materials. It’s driven push or

pull using human effort. In history, it is made of wood.

Over time, it has been innovated into a more modern design where it is made of

steel alloy with added rubber around the corners, for the purpose of carrying heavier

loads. But transporting the loads on the cart can be a struggle that can cause
1
musculoskeletal disorders. The solution to this problem is to lessen the use of human

effort, to the minimum, in transporting loads onto the cart, to avoid injury due to heavy

lifting, and increase the efficiency in the workplace.

Push carts are a simple machine that are designed to carry goods more than the

normal capacity than can be carried by any individual. Our design innovates pushcarts

to be more helpful and useful in our everyday life. It has a hydraulic jack that lifts the

pushcart effortlessly in desired elevation of the user depending on the given situation.

This push cart also has a tri wheel type tire that is specially used in climbing staircases.

In this design, we are trying to innovate a standard pushcart. Questions came in

first on trying to add features like what if the load is so heavy to put on the cart, or it’s a

delicate package that if not handled with care will be broken or destroyed, can it go up

the stairs. From different ideas of our members, we have come up of a design that has

multi-capabilities such as hydraulic/power-screw fork lifter in-front of the cart, conveyor

belt on the platform, tri-wheel on four corners for better stability when going upstairs.

From this unique design, we will greatly benefit in this because sometimes we get hurt

or injured by lifting heavy objects especially when going up the stairs. This will also save

time and manpower needed for lifting. This design will have a computation as a basis

for its capabilities especially on the maximum load it can carry and will be put to a test

after the prototype is done.

How Hydrau-Cart Work

Hydrau-Cart uses three mechanical combinations which are hydraulic lifter,

conveyor (powered by a motor) and a tri-wheel. The concept of this design is very

simple and easy to understand specially for the user. First, the forklift lifts and object

2
(debris, package, luggage and other heavy object) and delivers it to the conveyor.

Second, the conveyor moves the objects to secure the objects from falling. Lastly, the

tri-wheel will help the cart to travel through stairs easily without exerting too much work

for the user.

Statement of The Problem

The design was aimed to determine the effectiveness of the Hydrau-Cart as a lift

transport. The said design, composed of the following:

A.) Conveyor belt with a rubber base

B.) Forklift to settle the amount of carrying an excessive mass onto the platform

C.) Installed mechanical hydraulic lift with controller to sustain the amount of

effort to transport easily.

Before anything else, the design seeks to determine the following:

1. What are the accessibility and cost productivity of the materials from the market?

3
2. How long are the longevity usage of the prototyped pushcart aside from a regular

one?

3. How much horsepower capacity, efficiency and size of the engine motor needed?

4. What are the design improvisations for safety and the machine's stability?

5. What are the knowledge that was found on the machine's usage?

6. What are the considerations and recommendations for machine's development?

Objectives Of The Study

The objective of this design is to guarantee its effectiveness and functions very

well for the user.

Our design specifically aims to:

1. Minimize the design cost without sacrificing the design integrity.

2. Know if the product is feasible under real world applications.

3. Determine the appropriate size and provide power required for different

monowheel motorcycle sizes.

4. Reduce human actual work.

Significance of The Study

Hydrau-Cart will benefit people that always transport heavy objects from one

place to another without exerting too much effort that sometimes lead to harming

oneself. The importance of this project is to reduce actual work, faster object

transportation, and safe object transportation. The potential contribution of this project to

new knowledge is the ability to lift heavy objects with less human effort and offers safety

for the object and the user. The application of Hydrau-Cart for transporting objects can

4
reduce real time work, safe operation, reliable, and an advancement for tradition push

carts.

Scope And Limitations Of The Study

This design aims to easily transport heavy and delicate objects with the use of

mechanical concept that this design have. A pushcart that automatically loads itself

without a person trying to put object like a normal pushcart. Design and experiment will

be conducted on how to upgrade and revolutionize the concept of the pushcart

technology using mechanical concept and design. This project design will be focusing

on optimization and cost effectiveness for those who will be involved for this project. The

design will be focusing on a simple conveyor and lifter using hydraulics and power-

screw for the lifter. Design safety is also included to it`s design development.

Definition Of Terms

Hydraulic – Operated by a liquid moving in a confined space under pressure

Hydraulic jack – Device used to lift heavy loads by applying force created by the

pressure in the hydraulic cylinder

Conveyor – Mechanical Apparatus for moving articles or buld material from place to

place

Actuator – A mechanical device for moving or controlling something

Alloy – A substance composed of two or more metals or of a metal or nonmetal

intimately united usually by being fused together via melting. It results in change in

properties.
5
Musculoskeletal – Involving both muscular and skeletal

Tri-Wheel – A derivation of a normal wheel. Composed of three wheels that helps

something climb elevations without lifting it.

Power-screw – A mechanical component which is used to convert rotary motion into

linear motion. Uses Helical motion of screw to transmit the power rather than holding

the parts together.
