Installation of Kinetic Pavements to Power Street Lights

Problem Statement
Conventional street lighting systems use constant illumination lighting which leads to high energy
consumption accounting for up to 60% of a municipal government’s total electricity expenditure.
Furthermore, forecasts show that the energy spending for street lights is likely to increase over the
next few years as the demand and price for electricity increase. Electricity is one the biggest
problems faced by our country and because of lack of electricity in our country our economic
growth is slowing down. Kinetic tiles produces 2.1 watts of electricity per hour when stepped on
it and Street lights can use this electricity for lighting up the streets in night.

Goal
 The primary goal of this project is to install kinetic tiles and create electrical energy by
utilizing the weight energy or the human body mass to power up the street lights.
 Use off grid sustainable energy source which does not require any fuel or maybe any kind
of energy asset, just making utilization of motor energy.
 Boosting the economy of Pakistan as well as reducing the energy crises

Objectives
 To demonstrate the use of a viable alternative energy source
 To reduce dependency on fossil fuel, and use financial savings obtained from renewable
energy, and energy efficiency projects for the development of Pakistan.
 Collecting energy from human locomotion to be adaptable to such societal needs in order
to cope with the growing population and increasing demand for electricity.
 Demonstrate the technology by initiating new installations

Success criteria
 The project will be completed and a final inspection with the client will be held before
June 2020.
 The project will meet commercial objectives for profit and revenues without over
budgeting.
 The project will meet the required quality targets. On time inspection of both of the
project and service and implementation of change requests when there is a need.
 Position the corporation for follow up work. Which will be achieved via strong
communication and regular updates to client, and prompt responses to design questions.
 Project handover to operational team will be documented and completed appropriately.
 The Project will meet all internal appropriate information security policies.

Assumptions
 The Basic assumption which we have made is that our project “Kinetic tiles” will be a
huge success although it is not totally correct.
 No change in management and project team will occur.
 The solution will meet cost estimates and schedule constraints.
 The solution will meet a specified quality benchmark requirement.

Risks and Obstacles

 Technology is not introduced in the market by any other company before us. As it will
affect the scope, cost and schedule of the project. Then we would have to add more
features.
 Data loss and work delay due to electricity failure. As we will have to use the generator.
It will affect the schedule and cost of the project. Which will cause over budgeting and
we will have a trade off in quality.
 If it turns out to be expensive then it will be just a useless application.
 Kinetic tiles will require a large area for the installation in order to achieve a good level
of efficiency.

Attachments
 Energy Gain and emplacement suggestion
Each piezoelectric sensor generates 7 Watts once we step on it, and as each tile is placed between
3 piezoelectric sensors, the energy collected from one step is 21 Watts.
We suggest to put such a technology in the Anarkali Bazaar as it receives much visitors each
day.
By investigating about the number of people that entered Anarakali Bazaar last year, it give us
and approximation of 49315 Person daily.
One piezoelectric sensor 7 Watts
One tile 21 Watts
Number of people walking 49315 steps
Number of steps/ one person 3 steps
Total steps 147945 step
Total energy 310.6 Kwatt
