Geological Database

Surpac software takes advantage of the benefits of multi-user, open database

technology (ODBC). Surpac uses the large scale management power of products like
Access, SQL Server or Oracle for storage and manipulation of geological information. It
is possible to connect to an existing relational database or use Surpac to create a new
one with optional user-defined tables and fields.

Easily import and validate data like:

· lithology intervals · channel samples

· alteration · geochemistry
· assays · water levels over time
· down hole geophysics · point observations Core holes with bar graphs
representing sample quality.
The database is closely integrated with the central graphics system, allowing drill holes to be
viewed graphically and sections to be extracted quickly and visually using click and drag mouse actions. Database
tables can be accessed and edited by selecting the intervals of interest graphically on the drillhole section on screen.
Full sample compositing and interrogation tools allow quick reporting of interval and section grades/areas. Graphical
drillhole logs can be produced to show geology, grades and depths for single or multiple holes.

Solids Modelling

A common technique used in defining geological zones, orebodies, seams or mining stopes is Solids Modelling (sometimes known as
wireframing). The ease and speed of Solids Modelling is one of the most remarkable features of Surpac, automatically or manually
creating wireframe models from a series of sections. Single to multiple bifurcations are readily modelled. Solids can be clipped with
other solids or DTM surfaces. Resultant volumes of closed solids are quickly and accurately calculated.

Block Modelling

The SURPACVision block model is one of the most powerful and

flexible resource modelling systems available in the market today.
Using sophisticated geostatistical interpolation methods, attributes
for each block can be numerical or descriptive, and can be added
or deleted from the model at any point. Such attributes might
include gold grade, coal quality, costs, hazardous waste
characteristics or specific gravity.

Colour coding of the block display and legends are automatic. The
real power of block modelling comes from “constraints” combining
the block model with solid models, DTM surfaces, stopes or pit
designs. The Block Modelling module allows rapid creation of user
defined reports of volume/tonnage/grade within any constrained

area.

Surpac allows the user to specify both a target resolution for the statistical interpolation and a minimum resolution for use around
constraint boundaries. Once the target and minimum block sizes are set, sub-blocking becomes an automatic process, giving the user
maximum resolution together with optimum memory management and statistical validity.
Quarry and Open Pit Planning
Modules available in addition to Core 3D Graphics:

· Import Topographic and Survey Data

· Digital Terrain Modelling and Contouring
· Surface to Surface Volumes
· Cut and Fill Volumes
· Pit and Dump Design
· 3D CAD Tools
· Drill and Blast Design
· Solids Modelling
· Digitizing
· Production Grade Control
· Whittle Pit Optimization Interface
· Autoplot and Plotting

Pit tools allow interactive design of pits and dumps from the base up or the
crest down. The user is in full engineering control over ramps, roads, slope
gradient and bench width parameters. Design criteria can be respecified at
any time during the process. Slope gradient can be set by angle,
percentage or ratio. Geotechnical information may be used to vary slope Pit and dump design with draped aerial photograph.
gradients in different areas of the proposed pit. At each stage, the geology
or resource model can be overlaid to aid in the planning process.

Reduce the cost of pit planning and design by importing survey and topographic data rapidly via DXF or ASCII. Bench by bench volumes
and grades assist meeting ore quality and volume targets. A Whittle import and export interface is also available so that the ore body and
pit design can be optimized and then imported back into Surpac for further analysis. Whittle 3D, and 4X interfaces are available.
Communication and understanding at the environmental approval stages are opened up by using 3D visualization and photographic
image draping.

Underground Design
Modules available in addition to Core 3D Graphics:

· Solids Modelling
· Underground Survey Options
· 3D CAD Tools
· Panel Design
· Ring Design
· Underground Sections
· Underground Mine Grade Control
· Interface with Cavity Monitoring Systems

Take advantage of the 3D design tools present in the Graphics

module. Interactively digitize on screen and use tools such as
“grade a line”, “create a curved line”, “expand a closed segment”
and many more. From a centre line, form a 3D model of the
underground development raises and shafts easily using the

Solid Modelling tools.

New ramp design features allow the shortest path between two
points to be calculated and drawn as a centreline. For designing
curves the user controls the gradient and radius. To aid with stope
design, the geological resource model can be available on a
reference layer during the design process.

In an effort to minimize the cost of mining and maximize recovery, the

Grade Control module provides the essential tools for incorporating
production information like channel samples and blast holes. There
is a facility for sectioning underground pickups of back and floor
surveys and underground ring design. Finally, Ring Design tools can
be used to define charging sequences, reporting for drillers and
interact with stope solid models. Surpac interfaces with Optec and
MDL Cavity Monitoring Systems.

regions for data entry. There are interfaces to numerous popular
data recorders to enable rapid downloading and uploading of data.
Stations can be entered directly to the database, edited and deleted at any time.

There are various tools to help the underground surveyor to work more efficiently. There are chain and offset survey functions, profile
survey and radiation survey for picking up large open stope areas. You can produce setout notes directly from Graphics as well as
choose your own numbering system for point layouts. Slope stability can also be analyzed using slope stability tools in the surveying
module. The surveying options combined with the large range of general tools available in Surpac continue to make it the market leader
for surveyors.

Some Further Applications

· Stereonet Analysis · Voronoi Diagrams
· Volumes by Elevation · Search Ellipse Visualizer
· Tailings Depositional Modelling · Planimetric Variograms

Macros and Applets

The entire SURPACVision system is underpinned by a comprehensive macro

language (SCL) based on the popular public domain scripting language TCL.
It is renowned for ease of programming, platform independence and ability to
link to other programs. There are several significant advantages to the macro
capability.

By simply making a macro recording, the user can achieve significant

productivity gains by automating repetitive functions while at the same time
documenting their procedures. The resulting script file is easily read and
modified to facilitate rapid iterations. Further to this, the user can develop new
and original applications with custom menus for push-button triggering.
Special functionality requirements can be created for use by the user. Macros
which provide practical, broad-based solutions for many users have been
made available in the Applets module, some of which are listed above.
