A study on the need for Media Literacy in reality shows among early

adolescents

Abstract:

In today’s world of mediated communication we are bombarded with lots of information which we tend
to witness. Few of the messages get into our mind but a lot of others get unnoticed. There are various
forms of medium in this information age like: Print, Radio, Films, Television and also the advent of
New media. We get the information in either of these medium, one among those which is prominent and
ready to access is our television sets. We all have a television set in our home. Have we ever thought
about the impact it is going to create being idle at our home? This study focuses on the impact of
television particularly in reality shows among the early adolescents and the need for media literacy in
the curriculum. To achieve the objective the researcher has chosen early adolescents randomly. The
study employs survey method with a structured questionnaire using five point likerts scale to record the
responses of the respondent. The responses are tabulated and analysed using statistical tools. Thus
the finds and suggestions tell the kinds of impact it has.
