… The first ever chess work in Romanian language) [RO-ABC #002]. 88 pages. Historical study
+ first ever full reprint of a manuscript of the first chess work in Romanian language, with
cyrillic characters + translation in modern Romanian. A very interesting work, mainly for
collectors, but also for historians.

#3 Virgil NESTORESCU – Probleme şi studii alese (= Selected Problems and Studies). 188 pages,
+300 diagrams. Romanian language + explanations in English. A collection of selected problems
and studies of the Romanian GMComp Virgil Nestorescu, illustrated with several photos.

In these 2 volumes, IM Mircea Pavlov, trainer of the Romanian olympic male team, presents his
original strategical ideas about preparing the attack. Very useful for medium- and higher-rated
players.

#6 Gheorghe TELBIS – Cariera mea şahistă (= My chess career). A half of century of chess
activity), 88 pp., photos, diagrams, indexes. The book presents the chess activity of Telbis,
Romanian chess master, International master ICCF and master on chess composition. It contains
crosstables from correspondence tournaments where Telbis have participated, 60 games (59
played by Telbis), 49 studies (43 by Telbis) + 7 problems (4 by Telbis), and a total of 90
diagrams.

#7 Şahul în literatură (= Chess in literature), vol. 1. 160 pp. A selection of literary works of chess
theme: Sim. Sam. Moldovan, Mihail Sadoveanu, Stefan Zweig, Adrian Maniu, Mircea Eliade.

72 pp. Full reprint. In Latin language. It is the first ever chess book printed on the territory of
nowadays Romania. Now there are known only 4-5 copies all over the world.

#9 Marian STERE – Wolfgang Pauly. Challenge of a Legacy. Provocarea unei moşteniri. The
book, bound in coloured hard covers, is fully based on Pauly’s original archives. It has 736 pages
and is written (approx.) 50% in Romanian, 20-30% in English (many facsimiles), 20% (texts and
many facsimiles) in German. There are very many images of original documents, letters, photos,
first ever shown to chess world. The volume is structured as follows:
- Biography, pp. 10-141;
- Problems by W. Pauly, pp. 142-505;
- In memoriam W. Pauly tournaments, pp. 506-553;
- Articles by and about W. Pauly, pp. 554-573;
- Correspondence between W. Pauly and the great British problemist T.R. Dawson, pp. 574-
695. Most photos of facsimiles of original letters written by Dawson. First ever published!;
- Briefly about Pauly theme, pp. 696-701;
- Addenda, pp. 702-729. Several more problems by Pauly and articles.
The book contains 1357 problems by Pauly (an important part are original!) and many others,
reaching a total of approx. 1900 diagrams.

#10 Virgil NESTORESCU – Miniaturi în alb şi negru (= Miniatures in white and black). 224 pp.,
+179 diagrams presenting 179 endgames studies with maximum 7 men, selected from the best
works of Romanian composers. Short biographical information and photographs are presented
for each of the 17 composers included in this volume. The explanation of themes are in
Romanian and English. A 4-pages index by themes completes this work.

#11 Valeriu PETROVICI, Marian STERE – Radu Drăgoescu. 150 pp., +184 diagrams presenting
184 selected compositions in various sections by Radu Dragoescu, a welknown Romanian
composer. Biographical information, photographs and reproductions of 10 paintings by
Dragoescu (who was a good painter), as well as some other documents are presented to complete
Dragoescu’s life and activity.

#12 Mircea PAVLOV – Cooperarea strategică (= Strategical co-operation), vol. 3. 396 pages.
The last of the 3 volumes intended by author about strategical co-operation.

The book is in English language (~ 95%!), with several small fragments in Romanian.
RO-ABC is a comprehensive bibliography, covering all the Romanian chess books, magazines,
regulations, tournament bulletins ever published, and most of the titles from literature and
philately domain. Many miscellaneous items were added.
The items are arranged chronologically, in each chapter. For all the chess books and magazines,
each title is illustrated with the image of the original front cover (as well as for many titles of
tournament bulletins, regulations, literature, philatelia, miscellanea).
Around 800 entries, of which 663 numbered (613 being distinct items). Around 550 images: cca.
385 are covers of books/magazines, 40 signatures, 10 photos of authors etc.
300 pages, fully coloured, size 14x20 cm, hard covers, de luxe paper (115 gr.).
This is a de luxe limited edition in 222 copies (of which 72 are not for sale), numbered and
signed by the author.

#14 A. LERNOVICI – “101” Probleme de şah [cu mat în două mutări premiate cu premiul I la
diferite concursuri culese în cursul anilor 1923-26]. 64 pages. Full reprint of Lernovici’s 1927
book, the first chess problem book printed in Romania [RO-ABC #011].
Limited edition in 50 copies, numbered and signed by the editor (Marian Stere).

Andreian’s 1882 handbook, the second chess book printed in Romania [RO-ABC #004].
