Effects On Behavior From Video Games

At just nine years old I am screaming and yelling at a video game I am playing on my

television in my bedroom. Of course back then I wouldn’t have seen a problem with it because I

was just taking my anger out on a video game. Now, looking back on my nine year old self, I see

that this could be a serious problem for young kids and teenagers. I still, to this day, see myself

getting angry while playing video games with my friends. I am very competitive and do not like

to lose, but for some people video games are like a lifestyle to them and take it very serious.

I could never understand how I could let virtual video games take so much control over

myself, yet it happened. I am more worried for the other kids out there that take the games much

more serious that I ever have. I have seen videos of kids screaming and yelling at their parents

because of what had happened to them within the video game. I feel like kids are becoming way

too involved in these violent video games and it is majorly affecting their behavior. I think that

video game time should be limited to kids based on their actions and behaviors while playing the

games.

I believe that kids should be allowed to play video games if they perform well in school

and their sports, if they play any. I also believe that the video games kids are playing should be

approved by their parents before they get to play. I know that some violent video games, like

Call of Duty, can get inside of kids heads and give them bad ideas. Another thing to be cautious

of is maintaining who your kids are playing with online. I am concerned that kids could be

playing with people who seem nice and would like to be their friend, but you truly have no idea

who these people are outside of the video game. I think it is important for kids to have freedoms

and be allowed to play video games, but I think parents need to do a better job of what they play

in order to control their behavior.

I still need to know what triggers these behaviors in children and teens and why their

actions occur from violent video games. Why do kids get so attached to these games and why do

they feel the need to act out the way they do? I know how it made me feel when I would “die” or

“lose” in a video game. I need to learn and understand why I felt this way and why other kids

playing these video games feel this way too.
