STaRLink - eBike

GSM/GPS Remote-Controlled
Motorcycle Alarm System
User Manual

The STaRLink™ is a GSM/GPS module

designed to meet the motorcycle
environments standards:
All parts are embedded internally (including
the antennas), enabling a waterproof
design (using the water gourmet/hose), easy
installation and minimum power
consumption.
Designed to comply with the motorcycle limits of power consumption, the unit
overall power drain is extremely low power while keeping the modem in active
state, thus providing communication with the unit. Automatic storage mode will
activate a "sleep mode" (reduced power consumption) with a self wake-up
mechanism, triggered from events such as movement/tilt/shock and ignition-on.
The STaRlink allows wide range of services: form basic tracking thru i/o
monitoring and full AVL supervision, emergency services and security application.
The STaRLink™ image (without the rubber gourmet /hose):

The hardware includes: a 10-pin connector + wiring cable and a SIM card slot (push-
push type).
For easy zip-tie fixing, you could use the 2 side-fixing holes, or velcro tape.
The STaRLink eBike components:
-STaRLink tracking device incorporated with a built-in internal 433.92Mhz receiver,
movement, tilt, ignition and shock sensors
-remote-control (waterproof)
-piezo siren

Optional components:
-engine kill relay
-hazard light (turn signals) relay

Operation modes
- CallerID mode: using a cell phone to SMS messages or RING (if caller ID is enabled)
- remote-control mode: using the equipped remote control.

Once installed, the default mode is DISAMERD: the device is armed by a short press of
the remote-control's button.
In ARM mode, the tilt sensor (5 seconds angle change), shock or ignition "on" events will
activate the siren and the turn signals (if connected) and launch/page a SMS message to
the m/c owner.

Status LEDs

The Starlink 2 LEDs (green and red) supports the current device status:
The green led is a general unit / GPS status led
The red led is the GPRS modem's status led.
The idle LEDs status are the marked ones in the hereunder LED's description:

GPS Green led

GSM Red led

Green led – GPS Status

The green led (unit/GPS status) has the following blink pattern:
1. OFF– GPS is OFF
2. ON – GPS is "on" but no communication with module (A failure indication)
3. Fast blinking – GPS is "on", Location is not valid
4. Slow blinking – GPS is "on" location is valid (less than 10 seconds elapsed
since last valid fix).

Red led – Modem Status

The red led (unit/GSM status) has the following blink pattern:
1. OFF– Modem is "off", or the SIM card is not inserted
2. ON – Modem is "on" but out of Order (SIM problem, or can't be activated)
3. Slow blinking – Modem is "on" and searching for network
4. Blinking occasionally (for example: every 10 seconds) – Modem is "on"
and registered but in "stby" low power mode

Motorcycle Alarm - operation

Arming

Note: arming is enabled only if IGN SW = "off"

Arming could be activated in the following:
• Performing a telephone call from a pre-defined callerID to the STaRlink
SIM tel-number
• Sending a SMS with the text: "ARM" from a pre defined CallerID tel-
number.
• Using the manual ARM button on the remote keyfob
Arming is followed with 2 chirps and 2 flashes (if the hazard lights/Turn Signals
relay is used)

The alarm can be armed with tilt or shock sensor off, by sending an SMS:
ARM NoTilt – alarm will be armed wit tilt sensor off
ARM NoShock – alarm will be armed with shock sensor off
Disarming

Disarming could be activated in the following:

• Performing a telephone call from a pre-defined callerID to the STaRlink
SIM tel-number.
• Sending a SMS with the text "DISARM" or "DARM" from CallerID tel-number.
• Using the PIN CODE (programmable code while using the ignition switch).
• Using the manual DISARM button on the remote keyfob

Remote setting - hands free / manual

To use a hands-free remote control (signal periodic "keep alive"):

• Press the button for about 10 seconds - (while pressing the button, LED will light) -
until the LED goes out;
• Release the button and wait for the LED it to light one time;
• Press and hold the button again, until the LED begins to flash;
• Release the button - the LED will light up briefly - this is the first remote control of
automatic transmissions.

To switch the remote to manually:

• Press the button for about 10 seconds - (while pressing remote button LED will light) -
until the LED goes out;
• Release the button, the LED will flash 5 times;
• Press and hold the button again until the LED will flash 3 times;
• Release the button.

Alarm triggers:
When armed, the following could trigger an alarm cycle:
• IGN-SW is turned "on" (for more than 5sec).
• Shock detection.
• Angle change (more than 4 degrees).
The STaRlink will activate a siren and Turn signals (if connected) for 30sec.
Anti False alarm algorithm: A maximum of 5 alarm cycles could be triggered and
up to 3 from the same input.

Valet/Service mode
When using Valet or servicing the motorcycle, use this feature to disable the
Passive and ReArm features (if configured)
Send a SMS message with the text "VALET".
The STaRLink will confirm with 4 chirps and 4 flashes (if the turn signals are
connected) .
To Exit the Valet mode use the following::
• Arm/Disarm.
• Driving over 40km/H for minimum of 5min.
• Overall time of 15min when IGN SW = "on".
Disarm mode will be performed when Exiting a VALET mode .
Emergency PIN code (programmable)

In emergency, use the PIN CODE to disarm the STaRLink.

To set your own personal code: send a SMS with the text "PINxxxx" to the unit,
where x is a digit between 1 and 5.
For example: a SMS with "PIN1234" will set the emergency PIN code to 1234.
to disarm the STaRLink, the ignition switch must be turned on and off as
described in the set PIN code. Once starting a PIN code process, The alarm is
setting off - this is a normal operation
For example, to disarm the alarm using the code 1234, the following is needed:
• Turn the IGN SW once "on" and then "off" , then wait about 5 seconds
(entering the digit "1").
• Turn the IGN SW "on" and then "off" twice, then wait about 5 seconds
(entering the digit "2").
• Turn the IGN SW "on" and then "off" 3 times, then wait about 5 seconds
(entering the digit "3").
• Turn the IGN SW "on" and then "off", 4 times, then wait about 5 seconds
(entering the digit "4").
Now the STaRlink is disarmed.

Adjusting the shock sensor sensitivity

To adjust the shock sensor sensitivity, send a SMS with the text "SHOCK".
The system will confirm with 3 chirps and 3 flashes (if the turn signals areconnected).
Turn the IGN SW to "on"
While IGN SW "on", perform the required sensitivity by shocking the m/c to your
satisfaction.
Wait for the STaRlink to chirp to any of the shocks attempted.

Stronger punch/kick to the motorcycle = shock less sensitive

Weaker punch/kick to the motorcycle = shock more sensitive

To set a required shock level into the STaRlink memory, turn the IGN SW "off".

Power saving/Storage mode

Once ignition switch is turned off, the GPS module is turned off, keeping the last
known position.
Once Armed, the STaRlink perform a low consumption mode:
After 24 hours, the Cell GSM modem is turned "off".
Calling the STaRlink will fail and reply with a failed message.
Although the Cell modem is turned "off", your motorcycle security remains
protected.
The following algorithm will be activated:
Once every 30min, the GSM cell modem will be turned "on" for 5min in order to
receive a SMS which (if) was sent recently to the STaRLink.
In case of Alarm trigger (at any time) the GSM cell modem will turn "on"
automatically and maintain "on" for additional 5min. This will result in
transmitting alerts/event together with a very low power consumption.
Adding a new remote control – Procedure
In order to add a new remote control (self learning by the StarLink), the "new
remote control" option must be enabled. The following are required in order to
add a new remote control to a specific StarLink device:
1. Disarm the alarm system with and make sure the ignition sw is "off".
2. Press the Arm button of the new remote (the system will not respond in any way).
3. turn the ignition switch "on " and then "off" twice, and then turn it "on"
again . (On -> Off -> On -> Off -> On)
4. Press the Arm button of the new remote
5. The system will beep and blink once to accept the new remote control keyfob.
Note: the time between steps 2 and 4 shouldn't exceed 15 seconds.

Accident and Falling detection

The StarLink eBike version is able to detect and alert accidents in 2 levels
of severity:
Motorcycle Down (fall is detected but no accident)
Motorcycle Down + Accident (accident is detected prior falling

Accident Detection
To allow maximum accuracy, some conditions are needed in order to determine
an accident scenario:
a. The motorcycle speed must be over a minimum criteria (below a certain
speed the accident detection is inhibited).
b. The X or Y accelerations must exceed the accident threshold followed by a
"sharp" deceleration rate down to 0 km/h. while ending when the
motorcycle remains on its last inclination state as a result of an accident.

Simple SMS commands

Commands can be sent only from the number defined (motorcycle owner)
The SMS command structure is as follow:

current odometer reading is 12345 km."

Important information: (please read carefuly)

If alarm is triggered, the sirene will sound for 30 seconds and the module will send a
SMS to the m/c owner with information regarding event, along with GPS coordinates,
linked to Google Maps. Although the sirene stops after 30 seconds, if the alarm is not
disarmed, (by remote, SMS, phone call), it will turn into track mode, and it will send
SMS alerts every 60 seconds, until disarmed. This feature helps the unit to know that
the m/c owner is aware of the event. After the sistem is disarmed, the track mode will
turn off.
When the m/c owner disarms the alarm, the unit will send a SMS alert to the m/c phone
number with message “Disarmed” along with GPS coordinates. This is to confirm that
the alarm has been disarmed.

If power from the m/c battery is discontected, the unit will send SMS alert with message
“Power Lost”. If SIM CARD not removed, the unit will turn into track mode and send SMS
alerts every 60 seconds. In case battery of the motorcycle is changed, or power is
interupted, please remove SIM CARD prior to interupt the power to the unit.
