SAFETY RULES

The directions of this handbook must be read carefully as they supply important
indications on the safety of installation, use and maintenance.

Keep this handbook for any further reference.

This operational handbook describes the operation of the testing panels of electrical lighting
installations mainly used in housing buildings and partially also in commercial and production
facilities.
As regards the characteristics and operation of the devices and the necessary connections for
their operation, refer to this handbook.

UNPACKING
After the packaging has been removed, set all accessories so that they are not lost and check
the equipment integrity. In particular, check that the equipment and its accessories are integral
and they show no visible damage

Before connecting the equipment with the mains, make sure that the rating corresponds to that
of the mains (the rated value of the supply voltage is indicated on the apparatuses).

Power cords must be set so that they cannot be trodden upon nor squeezed by objects. In case
of incompatibility between the outlets and the plugs of the apparatuses, the outlets must be
changed with the suitable ones by highly qualified personnel. These engineers must check that
the cable sections of outlets are sized according to the power absorbed by the apparatuses.
The use of adapters or multiple outlets is not recommended; when these are used they must
comply with the safety regulations in force.

On the equipment, sometimes there are some slots or opening for ventilation; they must not be
blocked nor covered to ensure a reliable operation and to protect the apparatuses from
overheating.

Never set these panels on unstable trolleys, supports, tripods, brackets or tables. They could
fall causing injuries to the collided persons, or they can damage themselves. Any installation
of these apparatuses must follow the manufacturer’s directions and it must be carried out with
recommended accessories.

These apparatuses must be employed only for the use they have been conceived, i.e. as
educational equipment, and they must be used under the direct supervision of expert
personnel. Any other use is illegitimate and therefore dangerous.

The manufacturer cannot be held responsible for any damages due to illegitimate,
wrong or unreasonable uses.

PRECA AUTONS!
In orderr to safeguaard the operrator’s safetty and the good
g operattion of the aapparatuses, the use
of electrrical equipm
ment requirees the comppliance with h some fund
damental rulles. In particcular the
followinng standardds of use muust be compllied with:

Ambiennt temperatuure: fromm 0 to 45°C..

Relativee humidity: fromm 20 to 80 %.
%
Avoid aany sudden shift of tem mperature annd humidity
y.
These aapparatuses must be used in a placce without oro distant frrom: dust, hhumidity, hiigh heat,
objects radiating heat, objects producing a strong magnetic
m fielld (HI-FI looudspeakerss, etc…),
liquids oor corrosivee substancess.

Power ssupply: refeer to the volltage valuess indicated on

o the devicces mountedd in the pam
mel
Fuses: onlyy those indiccated in the correspond ding electriccal diagramss.

To prevvent contactt with electtrical parts, do not opeen the appaaratuses; in case of neeed, only
qualified personnell can do it. Before carrrrying out any
a mainten nance operattion, discon nnect the
panels ffrom the maains.

In case of fault andd/or malfuncction, switcch the apparratuses off immediately

i y and do no
ot tamper
with theem. In casee of repairs, refer to thhe after-salees service oro request eexclusively original
spare paarts. If thesse condition
ns are not re spected, thee apparatusees can be jeoopardized.

All the nnecessary connections

c for the exerrcises must be carried out with equ
quipment off
ff and via
proper ccables with safety plug
gs of 4 mm.

In case the protecttion fuses have

h to be cchanged, firrst of all rem
move the poower cord from
f the
mains ooutlet.

In case of penetrattion of objects or liquidds inside th

he apparatusses, disconnnect the pow
wer cord
and havve them checcked by quaalified persoonnel before using again.
CLEAN NING THE E APPARA ATUSES
Use a sooft and dryy cloth to clean the cas es and the schematic diagrams.
d N
Never use pesticides
nor chem
mical produucts or solveents for cleaaning.

VIBRA ATIONS OR R COLLIS SIONS

Be careful not to caause vibrations or colliisions.
DISPOSAL
These eleectric/electrronic apparaatuses and all
a their parrts will be disposed
d
of separaately from tthe other wastes.
w At thhe end of ttheir lifetim
me, these
apparatusses will be cconveyed to o the properr centres off separate co
ollection
of electricc and electrronic waste.
A proper separate coollection en nsures that the eliminatted apparatu uses will
undergo the necesssary treatm ment and recycling
r fo
for preventting any
negative effect
e on the environm ment and on men’s
m healtth.

EXERCISE

Exercise: Voltage stabilization in a synchronous generator in passing

from no-load to load condition

OBJECTIVE
Use the module AVR-E to keep the voltage across the terminals of the
synchronous generator constant at the load variation.

NECESSARY MATERIAL
- Control panel for the generation GCB-3/EV.
- Generation unit MSG-3/EV.
- Variable resistive load RL-2/EV or RL-2A/EV.
- Variable inductive load IL-2/EV.
- Set of cables for the electrical connections.

EXERCISE SET-UP
Carry out the electrical connections of figure 1

Figure 1 Lay out of the connection between generation unit MGS-3/EV and the panel
GCB/EV
-6-
EXERCISE

Connect the device AVR-E/EV to the panel GCB-3/EV:

- Connect the terminals L1, L2, L3 and N of the AVR-E/EV to the

output terminals U, V, W and N of the synchronous three-phase
generator (front panel GCB-3/EV).
- Connect the terminals F1 and F2 of the AVR-E/EV to the terminals F1
and F2 of the excitation circuit of the synchronous generator (front
panel GCB-3/EV).
- Attention! Before connecting the terminals F1 and F2 of the AVR-
E/EV to the terminals of the excitation circuit of the synchronous
generator (front panel GCB-3/EV), remove, if present, the
jumpers of the excitation circuit in the front part of the panel
GCB-3/EV.

OPERATIVE MODE
Set the switch of the AC MOTOR DRIVE of the panel GCB-3/EV to
run.
With the connection of the AVR-E/EV to panel GCB-3/EV, no
adjustment of the excitation voltage Uexc is possible anymore, using
the proper variator.
Change the load L-2/EV and IL-2/EV through the proper steps.
The voltage drop, due to the load, is automatically adjusted by the
module AVR-E/EV.
Check the stabilization of the voltage value at variations of the load
across the digital multimeter set in the panel GCB-3/EV.

stabilization of the voltage of the synchronous three-phase generator, at variation of the load.

EXERCISE

Attention! Before connecting the terminals F1 and F2 of the AVR-E/EV to the terminals
of the excitation circuit of the synchronous generator (front panel GCB-3/EV), if there
are any, remove the jumpers of the excitation circuit in the front part of the panel GCB-
3/EV.
