Subject: Essential Question(s):

Volleyball
Topic: How can using a proper forearm pass
Forearm pass accurately in volleyball increase my team’s
success?
Standard(s):

CASPE 1.2:
Volley a lightweight ball, using the forearm pass.
Lesson Procedures:

After a cardio warm-up activity to music and some dynamic stretching, students will gather for whole
group instruction on a review of how to aim your arms during a forearm pass. Students will also answer
mediated questions such as “why is it important to have accuracy when passing in volleyball?” “At what
height should my arms me to receive a volleyball?”

I will use direct instruction then break into groups of 3 using sticker cards. Each group will be distributed
1 IPad. While they are using the ipads, students will be monitored in a rectangular, controlled location.
Students will be given time to take turns videotaping one person forearm passing to the third person in
their group. Students will document how many successful passes they have with a partner with a paper
and pencil assessment after using the Ipads as a resource.

Students will return their ipads and assessments in after class and stretch as a group using muscle group
focused static stretches. After stretching students will be in pairs playing, “rock, paper, scissors, Share!”
where whoever wins the game of RPS, will share one piece of information that relates back to our focus
question “how can using proper pass form, increase our teams accuracy?”
Other questions: “How did you use the ipad video to correct your form?” “what angle should your arms
and legs be when passing in volleyball?”

After students are dismissed, I will be keeping a tally of successful forearm passes. I will monitor if I am
meeting my lesson goal of 20/40 successful students using the pencil and paper assessments of the
students.
