Changes Heidi needs to make in her approach towards Venture Capital and networking in order to

do both successfully in the future:

 She should delegate the initial screening of the business proposals to her staff in order to
minimise the time spent on reading and answering all her mails.
 As she believes that giving feedback to the people whose proposal she has rejected is
necessary in order to maintain relationships and form networks, she needs to be precise and
to the point in doing so and in some cases can avoid doing that too as well.
 She enjoys not only funding deals but also spending time working with them and getting
them implemented, she should segment her time between both.
 She can leverage her contacts and bring on board people with calibre like hers to share the
load of reviewing business ideas and getting them funded and implemented. This way she
would get an opportunity to spend more time networking and watching her projects getting
completed.
 To maintain close relationships with a deep and broad set of individuals she can connect
with them on social media.
 Since the onus of organising parties have been falling on her and her husband for so long,
she can propose the idea of doing parties at public places or at homes of her other
colleagues/friends whom she is personally and professionally close.
 Also, while working with people who she knows personally, she needs to learn to say “No” at
times, keeping in mind her capacity to work.
 Being a partner takes up 80% of her time, so she can possibly talk to the Softbank CEO who
hired her and discuss her concerns and try to reinforce her deal about working part time and
partly from home in order to spend more time with her family.
 Softbank should keep the request of Roizen to use the advantage of Roizen’s rolodex.
 She was primarily hired by Softbank because of her networking skills and her deep
knowledge of the technological landscape and since networking is a time-consuming job, she
can focus fully on that as well, if it suits her.
