SUGAR BINGING CYCLE SimpleHealthyEats
The sugar binging cycle sucks. I'm not going to sugar coat it for you ;)
But seriously, I always told myself I was going to STOP binging on sugar... And then
inevitably, (even the next day sometimes) I’d be sucked back into binging on sugar and
going through the frustrations all over again.
It feels like no matter what you do, you always end where you started feeling out of
control around sugar and eating wayyyy too many sweets in one sitting.
That’s why you have to BREAK the cycle if you want permanent, real change.
Yup, you heard me. The solution to stop binging on sugar has nothing to do with sugar.
Clearly, avoiding sugar doesn’t work. You’ve tried. You’ve given it up only to eat wayyyyy
too much again, and again, and again. You’re going to eat it. It’s just not realistic to avoid
sugar "forever"... I mean, how silly does that actually sound?
So what do you?
Well, here are the 3 epic ways I stopped binging on sugar --- which you can read more
about in this post.
Stress is the BIGGEST reasons why I was binging on sugar. If I was having a bad day, you bet that
later that night I was reaching for sugar to make myself feel better.
That’s why I had to get in front of the things that I knew were going to stress me out. I had to stop
allowing my life to be restricted to be stressful situations — and while you can’t avoid all stress,
there is a lot that you can do to put stress in your control.
For example, my biggest stressor was feeling overwhelmed by my to-do list. Anytime I was taking
on projects I didn't want to do (like a huge essay for my least favorite class)... I would take a break
and procrastinate by making myself a sweet treat instead.
So, by learning to confront those things I didn't like to do head on... and avoid procrastinating... I
was finally able to stop the binging from happening in the first place.

How can you get ahead of these situations and prevent them from happening so you don't
get stressed in the first place?
We eat sugar because it’s delicious, it’s fun, and it’s a LOT better than just sitting there with
nothing to do. Moral of the story: find more things that you enjoy so you don’t have to
constantly rely on eating sugar for entertainment.
So, if you want to stop binging on sugar, find ways to get out of the house and remove yourself
from temptation. Enjoy the sweet life out THERE, so you’re not stuck binging on sweets at home
alone.
This was probably one of the hardest changes for me because I'm a home-body, a bit of an
introvert, and I like being quiet and peaceful. But when I finally stepped out of my comfort zone
and broke free from my routine of binging on sugar at night by spending more time doing fun
things, I finally broke the binging cycle.

I was binging on sugar because I wanted the sugar high – I wanted to feel better and be happy.
But guess what – that sugar high doesn’t last! True fulfillment comes from chasing your dreams,
which means you need to do something that lights you up inside and gets you excited.
I found out my passion was doing this! Writing about how I changed my life by changing my
approach to eating healthy and actually healing my relationship with food. But I also love yoga,
hiking, and cooking with my mom to name a few others.
