The life of a girl

This story is mostly about Mel (Melanie) Gazelle a 16-17yrs old girl.

1. The party invite

JOSH
Eagle high school, Weird name. I thought as I stared at the sign out the front of
my new school.

“Hi I’m Mel”, a pretty girl with brown hair and green eyes said walking in front
of me.

“Are you new?” I nodded.

I don’t know what she wanted with me, but I suppose I should answer, “Hello
I’m Josh, look I’ve got to go but I suppose I’ll see you around,” I said as I
decided to walk off. As I walked away I looked over my shoulder and saw her
crestfallen face.

KAITLYN

Wow I wish I was as brave as Mel. I mean being friends with her for 14yrs has
made me tougher but certainly not braver. Well here she comes back anyway. I
wonder what she found out.

MEL

“So what did he say?” Kaitlyn (My best friend) said to me inquiringly. “Just that
his name was Josh,” I finished my sentence just as Salli Summers was coming
to us holding an envelope.
“Here it’s an invite for my party Saturday 2pm-2am, could you come please, no
parents supervising, bye.” She said as quickly as she could. Running away as
she said bye.

I opened the letter it said:

Dear Mel, I would love for you to come to my party on

Saturday 25th March.
Address: 6 Beach Street.
Time: 2pm-2am.
It is a couples/beach/pool party. Please come.
Love Salli.
“Hey, what are you reading?” My best friend Rick said in my ear.

“It’s a birthday invite, did you get one?”I said turning around to face him, boy
he was hot, with that dark brown hair and those gorgeous blue eyes.

“Yeh, why do you think I’m here I wanted to ask you to go with me, how bout
it?” I thought about it for a minute then answered.

“Umm ok..........but you do know that any girl will go with you.”

“And... so what I don’t care about any girl and your friend can go with... Billy
Maze.” He said. “Thanks, I’ve got to go but I’ll see you later, bye.”

“Ok, bye I guess I’ll see you tomorrow.”

RICK

“What are you doing going to Salli’s party with her when you could go with
anyone?” Said Billy maze (one of my friends) “Well she is my best friend, she’s
pretty ,smart and I happen to like Mel just because she’s not as popular as us
doesn’t mean I can’t go to a party with her, and anyway I told her friend Kaitlyn
you would go with her.” I said to Billy.

By the time school was over everyone knew about me going to Salli’s party
with Mel (Melanie) Gazelle, but I didn’t care.

MEL

Everyone couldn’t believe I was going to Salli’s party with Rick and I had to say
over and over we were just friends.

After school I went to the bank and got out the 500 hundred dollars my
parents had given me for my birthday last year and went dress and bathers
shopping with Kaitlyn. First we went to a little shop in the mall and I bought a
short dark blue dress that had no straps, with some silver sandals to go on my
feet. And Kaitlyn got a short gold dress with the straps-she hated strapless
dresses- with golden sandals.

After we went to the swimwear shop and I bought a black bikini with the
bottoms to match, Kaitlyn got a pair that was silver.

After we said goodbye and I went home to my house which is on the same
street as Salli’s, it joined on to the beach and I have the room that is facing the
beach (my room is painted dark blue). It has a balcony with stairs that go to the
sand.

It’s a 2 story house with 2bedrooms with ensuites, an extra bathroom and 2
extra bedrooms, 1study, a kitchen, lounge, a pool and a dining area. See the
thing is only Kaitlyn, Rick and Salli know I’m rich and if everyone else new that
would be a disaster, so only some people knew which was cool with me. As
soon as I got in the door I went and got a drink of milk and said hi to my baby
brother Tim, he had the same green eyes as mine but had inherited my dad’s
blonde hair. After I went up to my room and got my old bathers out of my
draws, I put them on then got my surf board, went onto my balcony and went
down the steps to the beach.

After I surfed for about half an hour, I got my towel and went back up to my
room and had a shower by then it was dinner time. I decided I would ask my
mum and dad then about the party, not that it mattered I was going to go any
way. After my mum and dad had told me about there day they asked me
about mine.

“I got invited to Salli Summers party, can I please go?”

“When is it?” my mother asked.

“Saturday,” I said.

“Fine but you can’t drink and if I find out you’ve been drinking you’ll be
grounded for a year.”I nodded then excused my self and rang Kaitlyn on my
mobile to tell her about my good news and ask how she went, she said she
could go too, then I rang Rick and he said he could come too I arranged to
meet at lunch behind the canteen and talk with Rick. Maybe people were right
maybe I did have a crush on Rick.

KAITLYN

At school the next day Billy Maze came up to me and we planned what time
the next day we would meet at the beach after I said bye, I went to find Mel
maybe she was behind the canteen like she use to go when she wanted a
private conversation, sure enough she was there but not talking to Rick kissing
Rick. I quickly turned round, I couldn’t believe it maybe my eyes were playing
up so I looked round again but she wasn’t kissing Rick she was talking to him.

“Hey guys what you doing?”I said as I walked up to the two of them.

“Just talking about tomorrow, you coming?” Rick said back a little red in the
cheeks.

“Yeah of course I’m gonna meet Billy at the beach, but first me and Mel are
going to get ready at her place since she has her own bathroom, oh the
jealousy.” I said the last part in a dramatic voice.

“Alright I’ll see you two tomorrow then, as football captain I’ve got to keep my
team in order so I’ve got to go to football training, not that I need it. You
coming with me Mel?” I had forgotten Mel was on the cheerleading team.
They also practiced at the same time.

“Yeah you were always so modest about that, well I can surf and you can’t, Ha.
Yes I am coming for cheerleading practice.” Mel said in a sarcastic tone then a
taunting one. Then the rest of the day flew by.

JOSH

“Hi I’m Salli and I’m having a birthday party tomorrow I was wondering if you
would come with me, since I can’t find anyone to go with?”Said a pretty girl
with long black hair and emerald green eyes.

“Um sure why not, I mean I’m not doing any thing I’ll be at your house at 1pm,
how’s that sound?” I said back not taken by surprise that much.

“Sure we can talk before the party, alright I’ve got to go bye.” Everyone
especially the girls seemed interested in me, which was good that meant I
didn’t have to use my powers to get what I wanted/ Did I?
 2. Getting ready &
The party
MEL

What time is it? I thought as I had just woken up, I looked at my clock 10o’clock
I better get down stairs and see if Kaitlyn is her yet. As I ran down the stairs I
heard the phone ringing.

Maybe that was her? I picked up the phone and said, “Hello?”

“Hey girl what are you doing? Cause I just woke up and was gonna come
round,” It was Kaitlyn.

“I was just about to ring I just woke up too, come over no one else is up, I’ll just
have some orange juice and we’ll get started because I know you like makeup,
I’ll help you, okay?”

“Okay be there in 10mins bye,” Kaitlyn said and then she hung up.

I went to grab the orange juice I had promised my stomach. After about
8minutes the doorbell rang and Kaitlyn was there I opened it and hugged her
and we went up to my room.

I got my bathers and put them on then I put on my dress and Kaitlyn sat at the
chair I had put in front of my bathroom bench.

And I started with her hair then her makeup, whilst I was working on her blush
she said, “I’m not sure if my eyes were right in this one but...umm did I see you
kissing Rick behind the canteen yesterday before I came?” she asked not trying
to look that interested, but I knew better, “Nope must of been your eyes and
anyway if it did happen I couldn’t tell I made a pinky promise.”

Her face went red, “Oh.... ok well anyway do you like him?”

“Kind of, I mean he’s smart, hot and he’s so kind to everyone I mean who
wouldn’t like him?”
“I reckon you two would be the perfect couple, like in a story I read, friends
forever who turn out to be more than friends.”

“How about you, who do you like at school?” I said trying to change the subject
and luckily it worked.

“Well I’m not sure maybe after tonight I’ll tell you.” She said trying to sound
mysterious.

“Done, now you have to help me with my hair.” After we had done my hair I
helped Kaitlyn put her dress on as she had already put her bathers on before
she came.

“Alright I’ll see you at the party I’m going to meet Billy, bye”. Well it’s time to
wait for Rick, I thought as she walked through my outside door and down the
stairs.

KAITLYN

“Hi.” I said as I came running down the beach to meet Billy.

“Hey whose house is that?”He asked interested.

“Just a friends.”

“Must be a rich friend, wait you only have one really good friend and that’s
Mel, nah can’t be her.”He said shaking his head, as if trying to shake the
thought away.

I quickly changed the subject and said “Anyway you look handsome,” although
he only had shorts and a black t-shirt, I was only trying to be nice.

“Yeah you look nice too, actually.” He said looking at me, “Thanks,” I said not
sure wether it was a compliment or a joke. Then we got talking and he actually
seemed really nice.
RICK

Gosh she looked hot in that dark blue dress; luckily I was able to sneak up the
stairs and caught her from behind.

“Hey,” I said kissing her on the cheek, while trying to give her another kiss on
the cheek she spun round and I actually got her lips, it was like an electric
current running through me.

Oh my ...... god did I just kiss her and, like it. “I’m so sorry I didn’t mean to...”
Mel said while blushing.

“Actually I quite liked it,” I said while trying not to blush. And trying to be
brave. “I kind of did too.” she said trying not smiling too hard.

MEL

OMG did that just come from my mouth. I can’t believe it

RICK

“Let’s go before anyone asks why we’re here.”

“Wait let me grab my board” She said grabbing her board from inside and
locking the door.

“Let’s go,” Mel said whilst going down the steps three at a time.

“Does this mean we are together”, I said running after her. “Um... Ok but can
we at least not let too many people know.” She said with a little too much
enthusiasm. After two minutes we were there. Salli was waiting at the steps
and smiling.

“Hey, Happy birthday!” I said whilst hugging her and getting her birthday
present out of my pocket it was a turquoise necklace. I had bought it because
of the colour. “Thankyou so much.” She said whilst opening Mel’s gift some.
MEL

After we had walked away from the birthday girl I noticed that there was a
yacht and a sign posted next to it saying: 24 cabins enjoy. I giggled at that
“What are you giggling at?” Rick said, I just pointed to the sign. He laughed at it
too.

“Hey Mel what are you doing?” Kaitlyn said walking towards me and Rick with
Billy at her side.

“We just got here, how about you?”

“We’ve just been talking to Christian Bow, we were just gonna go for a swim so
I’ll see you later.”

“Alright, bye.” I replied trying not to sound too surprised about them getting
along that well.

“What do you wanna do Rick?” I asked.

“Come over here for a second I wanted to give you something,” He said
walking me to the rail that separated the beach from Salli’s lawn.

“You see just before my grandmother died she gave me her necklace and said,
when or if you ever want to keep someone safe make sure they wear this,
you’re that person so here I want you to wear this, will you?” He said taking
out a gorgeous necklace.

“Of course I will, wow it looks beautiful thankyou.” I said as I looked at the
necklace he had just put on me an old silver necklace with some kind of blue
stones that looked as if they could be sea water.

“Would you like a drink of something?”He said while I stared at the necklace.
“Actually now that you mention it I am pretty thirsty.”

“Sure I’ll go get the drinks you stay here.” He said as he walked off towards the
drink table.

“Hello, how are you Mel?” Said a deep voice from behind me that I recognised
as Josh. “Fine thankyou, want do you want?”

“Just for you to come with me right now.”

“What, no way I’m waiting for Rick.” “Fine, come with me” He said the last part
in a commanding voice. I didn’t move so he came round and said in that same
voice again, “Kiss me,” he said while leaning in and kissing me.

I pulled back and slapped him full in the face. Rick came hurrying back slopping
the drinks everywhere. I suppose he had heard Josh crash to the floor.

I didn’t realise how hard I had hit him until he fell. I didn’t know what to do so I
ran picking up my things quickly, as fast as I could I ran onto the beach I could
hear a couple of people following but I just kept running until I could see my
house.

Then I ran up my stairs onto my balcony. I unlocked my door but before I could
get in I heard a girls voice say in amazement, “Does she really live there?!” I
quickly slipped into my room; I could hear someone coming up the stairs.

Not wanting anyone to stare at me I closed and locked my door then shut my
curtains, I could hear Rick banging on my door and shouting, “It’s me Rick,
open the door!”

I put my lamp on and went to peek out of my curtains, it was Rick as soon as I
said wait one sec he stopped knocking. I took off my shoes, then went to my
door and unlocked it and let Rick in.

Once he was in I locked my door again, I turned round to see him sitting in my
comfy chair I’d had since I was 5.

“Hey, look I shouldn’t have left you alone, I mean I’m really sorry about that
guy and now people know you’re rich and......” He talked really fast like trying
to not let me get a word in.

I quickly came and sat on his lap and hugged him which finally made him shut
up. “It wasn’t your fault, he shouldn’t have done what he did and I shouldn’t
have been as stupid to have slapped him that hard and run home. I’m sorry, it
was so stupid of me and now everyone’s going to talk about me and you
and...” I said just before the tears started; I didn’t ever cry what was wrong
with me?
RICK

I’d never seen Mel cry so it scared me. I didn’t know what to do so I pulled her
close to me, and let her make my top wet with her tears; I don’t know how
long I held her.

After a while I looked at the clock, it was 2am. I realized after about a minute
she wasn’t crying anymore, I could hear her deep breathing and realized she
was asleep. I slowly lifted her up not wanting to wake her, I pulled back the
covers of her bed and put her down, then I put the covers back over the top of
her and gave her a kiss on the forehead.

“Sweat dreams,” I whispered and quickly slipped through her bedroom door, I
went quickly and quietly down the stairs through the living room and out the
front door.
 Chapter 3
The accident

KAITLYN

It was 2.30am and I had just found out what had happened to Mel and Josh
but only one person saw it all Rick, and apparently he was with her now. I
knew she couldn’t keep her being rich a secret forever and by tomorrow the
whole school would know, and the worst part was I didn’t fully understand
why Mel would slap someone.

As I was going to find Salli I saw something I didn’t expect to see, Josh going to
a cabin with Lily Miles. I kept looking for Salli wanting to talk to her as I went
into the kitchen I saw her talking to Rick.

“Hey Rick, hey Salli. What you doing?” I asked wanting to know what happened
to Mel. “I was just explaining to Salli what happened between Mel and
Josh.”Rick said.

“So anyway Josh kissed Mel when she didn’t want to be so she pulled back and
gave him a good slap in the face.” Explaining to Salli.

“The poor thing, if I didn’t think it was too late to see her I would, but I think
I’m not going to invite him to anymore parties.” She said in a whisper.

“Hey um about Josh, I saw him going to a cabin with Lily Miles.”, I said back in a
gentle voice not wanting to cause anymore trouble.

“Well it’s not my business what he does, but I do think we should close this
party down yeah?”

“Yep.” Rick and I said at the same time. We went to where Salli had set up a
sound system and turned off the music.
RICK

I didn’t know what to say so I whistled and said in my loudest voice “Party’s
over go home now, and please take whatever you bought with you.”

Then I said to Kaitlyn, “I’ll go the right side of the boat you go left and we’re
gonna kick people out, ok?”

“Yep” she said back unsure. Once we split off I started to head towards the first
cabin and was surprised to see that the people were already leaving.

I looked down the whole yacht and everyone was leaving. Well that was my
job done after I went to see Salli and told her I needed to go home. But I really
wasn’t going home; I was going to see how Mel was doing even though it was
now 3 in the morning and I was tired, I didn’t care about myself me and Mel
had been best-friends forever, I guess that does something to you.

MEL

I woke up to find myself sweaty and shaky, it seemed like I was having a
nightmare something about people finding out I was rich, Josh kissing me and
me slapping Josh so hard he fell to the ground.

But then it all came back to me like a slap in the face, I realized after about a
minute that really did happen. Oh god no! “Ahhh!” I screamed without
meaning to, this couldn’t be happening not now that life was just turning out
to be good.

I realized then my scream must have been loud because my dad was coming to
my room. *Knock; knock* “Honey you okay?” He said coming threw the door.
“Sorry I had a bad dream; I didn’t mean to wake anyone.” I said not wanting
him to know about what happened at the party.

“Yeah umm ok... but if you need anything I’m just down the hall, goodnight
Mel.”
“Night dad,” I said. Then as he went out of my door and I heard him going
down the hall, I went to my little table not to far away and got my Mobile out. I
quickly dialled Rick’s number and hoped I wouldn’t wake him because it was
3am.

“Hello?” Rick said.

“Hey it’s me I wasn’t sure if you’d be awake but I need to talk to someone and
who else better to go to.” I said my voice shaky.

“Ok, look I was heading over anyway I’ll come through the back, if it’s ok with
you?” He said his deep voice saying he understood.

“Yep, how long till you get here?”

“Look out your back window.” I went and peaked through my curtains and sure
enough he was standing at my door.

I hung up and ran to the door unlocking it quickly and stepping back to let him
in then once again (that night/morning whatever you want to call it) and then
locking it behind him.

“So you wanted to talk,” he said this time facing the comfy chair in my desk
chair. I sat in the comfy chair facing him and let it all out. As I was on my last
sentence I saw guilt on his face.

“So you see, everyone knows I’m rich now and everyone thought I had no
reason for slapping Josh but it wasn’t meant to hurt him, just to tell him to
back off, I hope everyone doesn’t hate me.” I finally didn’t think I could say
anymore as more guilt and everything else I’d felt to night washed over me,
making me feel even worse, but I didn’t cry this time.

“I don’t know why you would think anyone could hate you, but if some people
don’t treat you nice I’ll be there. And how’s this sound I’ll hang out with you on
Monday and all of next week, that ok?” He said with a small smile.

“I’d love for you to hang out with me and Kaitlyn; I just hope everyone will
have finished talking about me by the end of the week.” I said this last part
with no hope.
“Ok, well I’ve got to get home I’m sorry about this, and I wish I could stay
longer but if I’m going to get home by 4am I better start walking. We’ll do
something tomorrow promise, ok?”

“Yeah and do you want a lift home because you know there might be someone
horrible out there, and I’m not taking no for an answer.” I said the last part
before he could protest.

“Ok but don’t you want to get changed?” He said, I looked down and I’d for
gotten I had my dress still on. “Why don’t you like it?” I said teasing him.

“No I love it; it’s definitely my favourite so far.” “

Sure, just turn the other way and I’ll get changed.” I said whilst going to my
draws and getting out my two leather coats and a pair of jeans and my
favourite black singlet. I passed a leather coat to him (the bigger of the two)
and made sure he had turned away whilst I got changed.

“Ok, done,” I announced, as I was turning around.

As I walked out of my room I grabbed my keys from my table and walked,

almost tip-toed to the garage. When we got to the garage I slowly opened the
door and turned on the light.

I grabbed a helmet for me and gave one to Rick. Rick loved and admired my
motorcycle so I thought why not give him a ride on the back. As I hopped on I
put my helmet on I thought I heard a little excited yell come from Rick, then he
got on and wrapped his arms around me. I started it up and drove out of the
garage his house was only a short way away.

As I was riding I felt the wind on my skin and it felt so wonderful. When I pulled
up at Rick’s house he gave me back my helmet and coat and said goodbye. He
stood there watching me ride away.

Then I tried to turn the corner and the end of his street but my steering failed
and I was thrown off into the air. When I hit the concrete I fell on my right side
and the worst pain of my life shot up and down through me, then black.
RICK

“Mel!” I screamed having seen her getting thrown off into the air and hitting
the concrete.

I ran to her as fast as I could wanting to know if she was alright, as I got there a
thought came to me ring 000 I took out my phone and said to the person I
needed an ambulance and she transferred my call to another person I then
said, “Hello my name is Rick Gamer and there's been a motorcycle accident I
need you to come to Night street right now.” I said in a rush but I supposed she
was used to this and said, “An ambulance is on its way please remain calm, and
don’t shake her or move her it could hurt her even more.”

“Ok,” I stayed with her, after a minute my mother came out wanting to know
what was happening, I couldn’t say anything all I could do was stare at Mel and
hope she was ok. After five minutes of waiting the ambulance came. They got
Mel into the back of the van and said that either I or my mum could come.
“You should go I’ll call someone and get this cleaned up and I’ll also ring Mel’s
parents and tell them she’s been in an accident, then I’ll come to the hospital
and if you want I’ll ring Kaitlyn in the morning.” My mother said to me pushing
me into the van and getting out her phone.

At the hospital they told me to wait in a chair and said they’d take her for ex-
rays to see if she’d broken any bones or had any internal injuries. It was agony
while I waited.

After about half an hour Mel’s parents and little brother came in, her parents
wanted to know what had happened. I told them how she had driven me home
and how she had fallen off whilst trying to turn the corner.

After another half hour waiting a doctor came out and said, “She’s very lucky
and has only a few scrapes, also a concussion and a small bump to the head. I
sighed in relief thank goodness she hadn’t been hurt more. Then the doctor
said only two people could stay in her room so I said I’d take care of Mel’s little
brother Tim, her parents thanked me and said they’d come out and later and
get Tim home and that if I wanted I could stay with her for the night.
 Chapter 4
Waking up

Two days later

MEL

I awoke to a white ceiling; all I could remember was a grinding sound, pain and
a lot of voices and blackness and the party. I looked to my right and saw Rick
sitting there a worried look on his face. When he saw I was awake I saw
happiness and relief cover his face. “Hey, how you doing?” He said truly
worried.

“I’m ok, groggy, a bit tired and numb. What about you, you look awful, have
you even had any sleep?” I said realising he must not have slept in hours.

“I’m ok but you have kept me waiting,” He said tapping his wrist like there was
a watch there, I smiled at him.

“What happened, and... um how bad are my injuries?” I asked wanting to

know. “Umm well you somehow managed to crash your bike and end up in
here, and it’s Monday, you’re injuries are: you’ve got a few scratches and a
little bump to the head, also a slight concussion and some bruised ribs. Luckily
there were no brains to damage.”

Wait did he just say it was Monday god I’ve been out for a day. “So what am I
the talk of the school?” I said already knowing the answer.

“Well you were going to be anyway, but yes somehow they managed to find
out you are in hospital and why and they’ve also talked about you being rich.
Also the doctor says that if you want to you can go to school tomorrow, I told
him you probably wouldn’t but yeah. I thought I might as well tell you. I better
go get your doctor; he made me promise if you woke up I’d go get him, so I
better go get him I’ll be back.” He said the last part just before rushing off.

After about a minute Rick came back with a doctor named Mr. Tkaen. I’d had
him treat me before but only for some glass in my foot, I felt kind of weird
lying there and having him examine me but as long as it got me out of here it
was ok he did make me flex my fingers, toes and legs a lot but other than that I
was just lying there. Just before he went the doctor said, “Try not to drive, run
or do any sport for a week, you may feel a bit sore but take a pain killer and
it’ll probably pass if you’re in real pain please don’t hesitate to come back or
call. So do you have any questions?” He asked standing in front of the bed.

“Um... can I go home now? And what time is it?” I said. He answered with no
hesitation probably having answered these questions allot jure in his doctoring
years. “ It’s 4.30 in the afternoon and you can go home as soon as your parents
finish the paper work and as long as you don’t take too much stress on. Well
I’m sorry but I have to go now and by the way you’ve got another visitor, I’ll go
get her. Bye Melanie,” He said bye whilst leaving, but as soon as he said I had
another visitor I knew who it would be.

“Hey Kaitlyn,” I said as my best-friend walked into the room looking happy to
see me.

“Hey, I just got here they only told me yesterday that you were in here. I was
so worried about you and Rick wouldn’t leave your side, he was the one who
watched it and called the ambulance. We were all so worried. And umm...”
“Yes?”I said wanting to know what she had to say.

“Well the thing is your motorbike was tampered with, that's why you didn’t get
round the corner, we don’t know who did it and we’re all trying to figure it out,
but we’ll get there.”

What! Did she just say it was tampered with no way, why would someone do
that? “We’ve also decided since Rick lives closer to you he will now be driving
you to school, and well there is a plus side to this, you get to pick the car that
you drive in until you get better you can either go in his rx8 or one of your cars
which have been checked.” I knew why she was giving me the choice she was
trying to distract me and it worked I finally said after a minute.
 “Umm I think we can go with my Ford Mustang GT- it’s the 2010 model- and
its red.” I had forgotten Rick was there so when he spoke from beside me I
jumped and it hurt, allot.

“Ok, cool I wanted that one anyway. Are you alright you just like jumped a
metre into the air when I started talking.” He said the last part with heaps of
concern in his voice.

“Fine, just remind me not to do sudden movements.”I said whilst pain filled my
voice even more.

“Do you want the doctor?” He asked even more worried.

“Nope I’m fine,” I said giving him what I hoped was a reassuring smile.

After about ten minutes of them telling me what had been happening whilst I
was ‘out’, my parents came in and said we could go.

They left me alone to get changed out of my hospital stuff. When I went to see
what they had chosen for me I was disappointed they had packed me all the
essentials a Bra, underwear, some hair ties with a hairbrush, toothpaste and a
toothbrush. But someone (I was assuming my mother) had got me a purple
hoodie, bright blue singlet top and pink jean’s to wear god she didn’t even
know how to match clothes together.

Well at least if I kept the hoodie on it wouldn’t look stupid. After I had gotten
changed we went to the car (By we I mean me and my parents since Rick had
to go home and Kaitlyn had to go home too).

On the way home I kept thinking the same things, who would do this? Why did
they do this? And how did they do it?

“So... we were wandering if you wanted to go to school tomorrow?” My mum

said cutting into my thinking. At the hospital I’d decided that I would go back
but hadn’t told anyone.

“Well, I’m thinking it’ll just make it worse if I don’t go back tomorrow, so I will.
And I promise I’ll take it easy.” I said watching her face go from anxiety from
what my reaction would be than to worry about tomorrow.
“Ok well then call Rick and tell him.” When we got home I asked mum where
my phone was, she said it had rung a couple of times while I was at the
hospital and it was still in my room.

I walked up the stairs slowly; when I got to my room I got my phone, sat on my
bed and called Rick, when he picked up I he said “Hey, Mel what you doing?”
“Nothing just got home, and I just wanted to ask what time are you picking me
up from school?” I knew I had shocked him by saying I was going to school
because it took him about two minutes to answer.

“Well we start school at 9 so how about 8.30?”

“Sure, that’d give me plenty of time.” After I was finished talking to Rick I rang
Kaitlyn.

KAITLYN

“Hello?” I said picking up my phone and answering it.

“Hey, I just got home and thought I’d ring to tell you I’m coming to school
tomorrow.” It was Mel. I knew she would go to school so it wasn’t such a
surprise.

“Cool, I thought you would. What you doing?”

“Nothing mum say’s I need sleep, and I probably do but I just can’t get to sleep.
I was thinking of going on email or just I dunno playing games on the
computer, how bout you?”

“I was going to go to the mall with Kirsty Baker.” I said knowing she would
want to come.

“Cool then I’ll see you tomorrow, bye.” She said back and I could hear the
jealousy in her words.

“Ok bye.” I said then hung up.

JOSH
“Hey man do you wanna go down to the beach with a couple of people?” I said
to Michael Rcent a friend I had made in my short time at Eagle high school.
“Sure I’ll round up some people, I got an idea how about beach Volleyball?”
“Sure I’ll get the gear, I’ll meat you at parking lot 2 and we can walk from
there.” I said as I headed off.

When I got to the beach it was about 5pm and Michael and some other friends
were there.

“Hey, man you got the net and ball!?” Dylan said (Another friend) “Yep come
help!” I called back to him.

When we had got the stuff out of the boot of my car we walked down to the
sand with me leading the way. I knew the perfect spot for a game right in front
of Mel’s house.

After we had set up, we split into teams, team one: Michael, Sandy, Kirsten,
Harry, Matt, Thomas and Dean. Team two: Me, Lily, Kristy, Christian, Dylan,
Jack and Rosaline. As we started to play I knew the game would get Mel’s
attention so I kept peeking up towards her house. I wanted to get her back and
bad, she was going to pay for hitting me.
 Chapter 5
Payback

MEL

I could hear people playing beach volleyball outside so I peeked through my

window, I was shocked at first of who I saw then I was angry and as I got
angrier my head hurt. I was very tempted to go out and start yelling but I knew
that it was what Josh wanted so instead I went out.

As I went out I smiled my most slow and sexy smile and it worked Josh froze. I
sat on my chair and watched the others play. About after a minute everyone
realized Josh was still frozen, when they followed his gaze they were all
shocked to see me. Then my phone buzzed and saved me from the stares I was
getting.

“Hello,” I said as I answered my phone. “Hey I was just about to come up so I

thought I should warn you.” It was Rick, my best-friend/boyfriend- well I
wasn’t sure about the boyfriend part. “Ok I’m sitting on my balcony so come
round the back, bye.”

“Bye,” He said before hanging up the phone.

“So it’s nice to see you all.” I said turning around and breaking the silence,
some of the shock was still there but they were getting over it and they looked
guilty.

“Oh, I didn’t know this was where you lived I suppose we better go.” It was
Josh who spoke and I couldn’t see any kind of sorry in his face. He probably
wasn’t sorry at all he just wanted to make me angry, and it was working.
 I realized my head was getting worse and I was standing up. As every second
ticked by and I stood there my headache was getting worse and my vision was
getting blurry but I held on, not wanting to show any weakness.

“Well then you should know now, you probably figured out I was rich too. Oh
and by the way I just wanted to tell you, I know what you’re trying to do and
it’s not going to work. And never kiss me again.” I knew I shouldn’t have talked
back, but I had too.

“Well... we’ll be going, umm Josh you coming?” Michael said. “Yeah in a
minute I’ll meet you at the car, I want to talk to Mel and sort some stuff out,”
He said to Michael but he was still looking at me.

“Ok man I’ll just pack up the stuff, bye Mel I suppose I’ll see you at school.”
Before going he gave me an apologetic smile and slapped Josh on the back like
he was a brother.

Josh stood there after his friends went, just staring at me as if he was trying to
figure something out but couldn’t get the right answer. After about 5 minutes
of silence I wondered where Rick was, why hadn’t he come yet? I knew I was
going to faint in about a minute and I could feel the blackness surrounding me.

JOSH
When I saw Mel fall I panicked, I hadn’t meant for that to happen all I wanted
was to get into her mind and find her weak point. I knew Rick was coming so I
had to be quick getting away. As I got into my car I thought I might as well head
to the mall.

KAITLYN

“Hey Kirsty,” I said giving my friend a hug.

“Hey, do you want to go get something to eat? Because I haven’t have lunch
and it’s almost dinner time and I’m hungry.” She said suggesting something for
us to do.
“Sure how about some French fries –and not the ones from the packets- we
could go to Mimi’s?” I said making a suggestion of my own.

“Cool I haven’t had French fries in ages.” So with a plan we walked to Mimi’s.

RICK

When I saw Mel sitting on the floor of the balcony I smiled happy to see her
alive and well. “Hey Mel what you doing?” I asked just as I got to her.

“Nothing, I was just waiting for you to come,” she said grabbing my arm and
pulling me down to the floor next to her. I could see something in here eyes
that said something was wrong, and she had hardly any colour in her face as if
she’d just fainted, so I asked, “Are you alright?”

“I’m alright I’m just a bit tired, but I wanted to see you before I went to bed.”
This surprised me a bit but I kept my face the same.

“Oh, okay well let me help you up.” I said getting up and extending my arm.
She grabbed hold of it, but once she was standing up, I had to catch her
because she nearly fell over.

“You sure you’re alright?” I asked worried about her.

“I’m fine just tired.” She said trying to convince me.

“Ok,” I said not convinced. I opened the door and helped her walk to the bed.
After we talked for a while and she fell asleep.

JOSH

“Hey, what are you doing?” I said to Kaitlyn coming up behind her. She jumped
and spun around.

“What do you want?” She said cautious. Just then it hit me I knew how to get
back at Mel properly.

I looked straight into Kaitlyn’s eyes and said, “Sit down.” She did as I said
without hesitation, and I knew she was under my control.
“I want to get back at Mel, but for that I need you. I want you to be my
girlfriend.”

“Sure, do you want anyone else to know?” She asked.

“Yes, I want everyone to know except your parents.” She nodded.

“I also want you to, brag about me to Mel all the time. And by the way you are
absolutely in love with me. Got it?”

“Yes, I will do as you say.” I turned away and she went out of the trance. “I love
you.” Kaitlyn said to me coming back out of the trance.

TUESDAY MORNING

MEL

I woke to someone opening my blinds and letting light pour into my room.
“What are you doing?!” I yelled irritated.

“I’m waking you up for school; remember you said you wanted to go.” My
mother said coming over to stand in front of my bed.

“Yeah, uh sorry. And I’m getting up, could you just please close my curtains so I
can get up.” I said.

“Ok, but you better not go back to sleep Rick will be here in 20minutes.” She
said pulling my curtains closed. “And by the way your school uniform is at the
end of you bed.” She said leaving and closing the door.

I got up and nearly fell over, but steadied myself before I could. I went to the
end of my bed and saw my school uniform; it was a light blue button down top,
a dark blue hoodie and a black skirt. I also put shorts and a singlet under it. I
had a quick five minute shower then changed, after I dried and brushed my
hair, I have thick and wavy brown; unlike most teenage girls my age I hated
makeup.

I put my school bag over my shoulder and went down stairs to grab something
to eat. I put an apple in my bag for lunch, and ate one for breakfast. I also had
some orange juice, weird combo but it tastes good.
‘Nock, Nock.’ Someone was banging on the door.

“Coming!” I called as I raced to the door. I opened it and Rick was standing
there, a smile on his face.

“Good morning, how are you today?” He asked, as I stepped out of the
doorway, locking the door behind me.

“I’m ok, how about you?” I asked.

“I’m good, hey um coach wants to talk to you about Saturday.” He said.

“What’s on Saturday?” I asked, why would coach need me on Saturday?

“There's a big game on between our team and The Hawks.” Rick played on the
football team. I wanted to play but since I was a girl I wasn’t allowed. Although
I was on every other team. I was even on the cheerleading team.

“Cool so I guess that means I’m cheering.” I said in a sarcastic tone. I didn’t
mind it but it was a bit annoying sometimes.

“Cool lets go before we’re late.” He said getting into the car.

I sat in the passenger’s side. I watched out the window as we drove to chool.
