My Jam Explained
For this project, I picked two songs that describe who I am through music. These songs
are “False Confidence” by Noah Kahan and “Don't Give Up On Me” by the Dansu.
These two particular songs came up in my playlist and caught my attention because I
could relate to them. I feel that “False Confidence” would work well with my mindset.
When I was done transcribing “False Confidence” I found “Don't Give Up On Me” at the
bottom of my playlist and I couldn't choose one of them so I just chose both of them. I
chose those two songs because they represent how I don’t want to give up on myself.

For instance, “False Confidence” specifically resonated because it said: “don’t take
yourself so seriously,” “you’re here for a reason but you don’t know why.” I could relate
to this because I feel that whenever I mess up or do something wrong I tear myself
down for the rest of the day, and I almost never forgive myself if I hurt other people's
feelings. The next part: “You’re here for a reason but you don’t know why” is similar to
how I feel. I don't know why I am on this planet yet, but what I do know is that I am here
for a reason. No matter what it is I am here to make a difference. The last line that
meant something to me in this song was: “why won’t you take me seriously?” I often
feel when I make a mistake or make a bad decision that I get treated as if I am less than
the one judging me. Condescension seems to come easily in my direction with even
minor mistakes.

Furthermore, “Don’t Give Up On Me” relates to me because it says “all that I need is an
honest friend” this is really what I am looking to find. Also, as the title implies I don’t
want others to give up on me, even if I mess up. The song also mentions “all I want is a
simple life.” I am hoping to have a simple life without problems or drama. Even if I can’t
get those things maybe I can have a positive attitude that allows me to accept whatever
comes my way and keeps things as simple as possible.

To conclude, these two songs definitely spoke to me more than the other 20+ songs
that I heard. I enjoyed this project because I got to listen to music in class and it helped
me learn how to type faster. I also liked listening to music to see how I could relate. I
had never listened to a song just to get the meaning from it, in the past, I just enjoyed
the beat. Now I listen more to the words.
