I. Questions on Isabel Allende’s “An Act of Vengeance”

Describe the political background of the story (the role of the governor, guerrilla fighter,
conservatives, liberals)
Tadeo Cespedes, the guerrilla fighter political back was that of a natural born soldier
who only knew combat and had no semblance of a peaceful life or memories of his past.
Eventually after raping Dulce Rosa he ascended in political rank until the end of the story.
I don’t know how else politics come to play in this story.

Select feminist aspects of the story

The Feminists aspects of the story were when Dulce Rosa rebuilt her life on her own,
repaired her home, became strong again, recovered from the rape and continued to shine and
grow in fame much to Tadeo Cespedes chagrin. Until eventually he was consumed with guilt
and romantic desire and returned to apologize.

What is unexpected about the ending? Why?

The most unexpected part about the ended was when Dulce Rosa and Tadeo Cespedes fell in
love with one another after all of those years and proposed to one another, but then soon after
Dulce Roma killed herself on her Wedding day in grief of the past being irrevocable.
