INTRODUCTION:
Nursing is a profession with in the health care sector focus on the care of
the individuals, families, and communities so they may attain, maintain, recover optimal
health and quality of life. Nurses may be differentiated from other health care provided by
their approach to patient care, training and scope of practice. Nurses practice in many
specialities with differing levels of prescription authority. Many nurses provide care with in
the ordering scope of physicians, and this traditional role as shaped the public image of
nurses as care providers. However, nurse practitioners are permitted by most jurisdictions to
practice independently in a variety of setting. In the post war period, nurse education has
undergone a process of diversification towards advanced and specialized credentials, and
many of the traditional regulations and provider roles are changing.

OBJECTIVES:
 Nursing is a dynamic therapeutic and educative process in meeting the health care
needs of patients
 It ensures timely and continuous care for sick
 Ensure qualitative, quantitative, efficient and effective nursing care

FUNTIONS OF THE DEPARTMENT:


 To assist the individual patient in performance of those activities contributing to his
health or recovery
 To help and encourage the patient carry out the therapeutic plan initiated by the
physician
 To assist other members of the health team, o assist other members of the team to plan
and carry out the total program of care

 The acuteness of the service & the rate of turnover of patient
 The experience of the nurses
 The number & quality of teaching
 The amount of appointment of the medical staff

CONCLUSION:
Nurses form the back bone of the hospital they are the person who is
capable of handling the emergency situation. KMCH provides the necessary training and
orientation to the nurse. KMCH nurses are found to be very skillfull.
