“Selenophile Gone Wrong”

By: Czarina Nicole W. Tarlit

Question:

When I walk, why does the moon seem to follow me?

- Ms. Ice Van Gogh

Answer:

To be poetic, it would be a blast in bliss having the moon to follow me as of being a selenepohile who
admires the moon so much it actually stabs me right in the heart to see you glowing all alone in the
midst of the cold night. I sat by the rooftop ‘It’s late, you’re supposed to be asleep by now”, you said,
and yet here I am still admiring you from afar with the fear living inside this system of mine that maybe
one night you won’t be here anymore.

Now answering your question directly, it really does seems like its following you but it’s not, that
because it is very far away compared to the objects such as buildings and trees which are very close, this
phenomenon is known as a parallax; where the position or direction of an object appears to differ more
when viewed from a different position.

It’s like when you’re looking at the sky and it’s very far from you that what you see is the same from
every other point around you. So when we change our position and look again at the sky, supposed to
be it should change its view but it really doesn’t, and that’s the part where out brain concludes that it is
moving with us.
