TEACHER HANDOUT
A. Ask the learners to give examples of food chains in the given food web
B. Decode!
1. ENERGY
2. PYRAMID
D. Key answer
1. According to 10 percent law, most of the energy are used by the organism itself (for its functions) and
some are lost as heat. Only 10 percent is made available to the next trophic level.
2. The energy pyramid has a large base which shows that energy is concentrated at the base and becomes
less as it goes up.
3. Organisms can be either producers or consumers in terms of energy flow through an ecosystem.
Producers convert energy from the environment into carbon bonds, such those found in the sugar
(Glucose)
F. COMPLETE ME!
1. PRODUCER
2. PRIMARY CONSUMER
3. CARNIVORE

ACTIVITY SHEET
I. OBJECTIVE/S:
a. construct an energy pyramid diagram
II. MATERIALS:
pictures of plants and animals, cartolina, pair of scissors, paste
III. PROCEDURES:
1. Use at least three of the organisms listed below to create an energy pyramid.
2. Place each of the following terms to the correct location, on the provided ecological pyramid.
• Carrot plant • Autotroph • First Trophic Level
• Corn • Carnivore • Fourth Trophic Level
• Deer • Herbivore • Primary Consumer
• Dog • Omnivore • Secondary Consumer
• Eagle • Producer • Second Trophic Level
• Rabbit • Third Trophic Level
• Snake • Tertiary Consumer
IV. ANALYSIS:
. 1. What is 10 percent law?
2. How does the ecosystem regulate the transfer of energy?
3. Infer what will happen if the energy pyramid will be inverted.
