Timing and Dosages of Flower Remedies

ATUL RAMKRISHNA SUKHATANKAR·THURSDAY, APRIL 23, 2015·

Regular, rhythmic use of the flower remedies builds the strength of their catalytic action.
Therefore, potency is increased not by taking more drops at one time, but by using them on a
frequent, consistent basis.

In most cases, the *diluted essences should be taken, four drops four times daily or 4 to 6 pills
four times a day, whichever is convenient, although this may be increased in emergency or
acute situations to once every hour, or even more often. For the regular use, there should
ideally be a gap of three to four hours. In acute cases however, this can come down to 20-30
minutes, for the first six doses or so, then spaced out as for the regular ones.

The Five-Flower Formula or Rescue Remedy, when used temporarily or to tide over an
emergency situation, is often taken on a frequent basis, even after a gap of 10-15 minutes, but
largely for the first six doses only.

On the other hand, children or other highly sensitive persons may at times need to decrease
the frequency of use to once or twice daily, if they seem to be reacting too strongly.
A composite prepared out of the chosen ‘ready-to-use’ or diluted essences is mixed in equal
proportions viz. equal no. of drops ; or equal, measured as ml; or, if dropper or calibrated
cylinders are not available, even as equal spoonfuls.

The essences address the relationship between the body and soul, and therefore are most
effective at the thresholds of awakening and retiring, since these are the times when the
boundaries between body and soul shift. Other transition times of the day are also important,
such as just before noon or evening meals. Even when the essences are used in the midst of a
hectic schedule, it is beneficial to allow a quiet moment of receptivity so that the messages of
the flowers can be received at a subtle level.

Many people find it helpful to remember to take the essences by keeping one bottle of their
flower essence formula right on the bed-stand, and another one of the same combination in
their purse, briefcase, or in the kitchen, though away from heat.

Although flower essences can be used on a short-term basis for acute situations, their ideal use
is for long-term or deepseated mental-emotional change. At this level, the most common cycle
of essence use is four weeks or one month, a time interval which is strongly correlated to the
emotional or astral body.

Seven-day or 14-day cycles may also be of significance in the growth process. For particularly
deep changes, a whole series of monthly cycles may be required to be considered.

However in most cases, changes will be noticed in about one month.

At this interval there is usually the need to re-formulate or re-assess the flower essence
combination. We recommend continuing to use a formula, or at least one or two key essences
from the mix, for a period of time even after some change has been noticed. This allows a
possibility for the essences to be “anchored” at deeper levels of consciousness.

For preparing the diluted ready-to-use remedy from original essence bottles obtained from
Bach Centre, UK or from abroad :

Add three drops of each chosen flower remedy (up to a maximum of seven remedies) to a 30ml
dropper bottle, topped up to the shoulder with spring water. A small amount viz. one teaspoon
of brandy, cider vinegar or vegetable glycerin can be added as a preservative. From this dropper
bottle, four drops are taken on the tongue, at least four times a day, with three to four hour
gap between two consecutive doses.

Alternately, two drops of the required remedies up to a maximum of seven individual remedies,
is added to a glass of spring water to be sipped as often as needed thru day.

If you wish to take from the imported bottles without mixing with water or alcohol, you may
take them straight 3-4 drops on the tongue and repeat every half an hour for the first six doses
if the situation is acute. Once the situation gets eased out, you may take 3-4 drops after every 3
to 4 hours. Rescue is a crisis formula and works best only at times of crisis or emergency. Later,
it works more to heal the nerves...than to tide over an emotional condition, for which it is
always better to get the right remedies prescribed from an experienced therapist.

*what you get from the Bach Centre or from bottles purchased abroad are generally the
concentrated essence bottles and not the diluted, ready to use ones available in Homeopathy
shops across the country, here in India. They are easily recognized by the word ‘Bach’ written in
a script font.
