Chapter 2 Narrative

A very hard time in my school career came about in 8th grade, when I had a very hard

choice to make for my whole family’s living career. We were living in Cypress, Texas and

football was a huge thing in my family because all 4 of the kids only played football due to our

dad being a high school football coach. We loved it so much, but one year my dad was offered a

new job in Spring, Texas where a team was better but we would know no one and have to

move to a new school during the middle of the year in less than 6 weeks for my big brother to

be eligible for next season on their team. My big brother was super happy about it but us little

brothers on the other hand weren’t so convinced, we had all our friends where we lived and

that’s all we ever wanted. This brought the family to a halt on whether we should move or not,

and if it was for the better and it literally came to a family vote on if it was best.

Values came in right here for me and finally trying to understand the situation of life on

what was best. My biggest value is family, and them being happy so I had to make sure I made

the right choice for everyone.

My next value is success which makes the world go around because if there were no successful

events then we would not improve society. My last value is kindness, therefore being kind and

doing something for the family would in turn make me happy. I realized that moving would

make my mom, dad, and big brother happy and that my little brothers were too young to fully

understand the scenario. Looking at what was best, I also realized that we all have more

potential at success transferring to a different school and learning in a new community. I

understood it was time to start a new life and that being kind to my parents may return one day

so that is what I did. I agreed to move on after looking at my core values and fully

comprehending the situation and soon fell in love with Spring, Texas alongside my family. These

core values of mine truly brought me together to help come to the best possible outcome with

me and family, however, not only did those values help that day, but they still matter every

second in my day to day life. I have had to be kind multiple times in situations I do not want to

be, but It only has brought me to become a better human and more successful which ties to the

other value. Success is driven on how bad you want something in my book and if you want it

bad enough you can always go and get it.

Values are the biggest thing that define a person and different values are what make

each human equal. Everyone is different and has their own values, but it is how you let those

values define you. My values originated from the way I raised, I was always taught to put family

first then go and succeed and be kind and grow the world in a positive way. These values

impact my situation academically greatly too because I had to want to be successful to ever

graduate high school let alone attend college.

My value of success has driven me way farther than any other value academically because of all

the goals I have set and how far they have taken me. I would have never expected to get so far

along with all the unique events that have happened in my life and I personally thank my core

values for that.
