RT QUESTIONS:

1) What is the basic principle of RT?

Ans: The basic principle of RT is differential absorption based on density of
the material. High-density material will be shown in white color and less
density material will be shown in dark color.

2) What are the equipments we use in RT?

Ans: Industrially, we use X-ray machines or Gamma ray machines.

3) What are the disadvantages of X-ray machines?

Ans: They use high amount of current and not so poetable compared to
gamma ray machines.

4) What are the advantages of gamma ray machine?

Ans: A gamma ray camera is portable and doesn’t require current as we are
using a radioactive isotope.

5) What are the pros and cons of X-ray and gamma ray machines?
Ans: X-ray machines give the best quality image compared to gamma ray
machines, but gamma ray machines are cheaper.

6) What are the isotopes used in gamma ray camera?

Ans: We use Iridium 192, cobalt 60, Thulium 170 etc.

7) When to select a particular isotope?

Ans: Isotope is selected based on the thickness. Mostly we select Iridium192.

Thulium = Thickness less than 10mm

Iridium192 = Thickness between 10mm- 50mm
Cobalt 60 = Thickness greater than 50 mm

8) What are the metals used in a gamma ray camera to protect from
radiation?
Ans: To stop gamma ray radiation we use metals like high-density lead,
tungsten or depleted uranium inside the camera.

9) What is the use of lead screens inside a film casette?

Ans: Lead screen is used to stop radiation scattering.

10) What is the half-life period of Ir192, Co60?

Ans: Half-life period of Ir192 is 74 days and cobalt 60 is 5.3 years.

11)Which technique is used for pipe of dia greater than 12 inches?

Ans: We use Single wall Single Image Panaromic shot.

12)When do we use Double wall single Image?

Ans: For pipes of dia 3 inches to 12 inches.
13)When do we use Double wall double Image?
Ans: For pipes dia less than 100mm.

14)What are the steps for developing a film

Ans: Step1: Dip the film in development solution for 5 to 8 min
Step2: Dip it in stop bath to stop developing
Step3: Dip it in fixation solution to form the image
Step 4: Water wash
Step 5: Drying

15)What are types of films?

Ans: Films are based on their grain structure.
1) Coarse grain film or high speed film
2) Medium grain film or medium speed film
3) Fine grain film of slow speed film

16)Which film gives the best quality?

Ans: Fine grain film.

17)What should be the distance between source and film?

Ans: Distance between source and film= Length of the film X 1.5

18)What are rules to be follwed in a developing room?

Ans: In the developing room , room temp should be between 18-22 degrees
centigrade. The walls should be painted black, and we must use only red
light.

19)What is an IQI?
Ans: A Image Quality Indicator is used to check the sensitivity of film. Two
types of IQI are Hole Type IQI and Wire Type IQI .

20)Which Wire type IQI do we use?

Ans: We use ASTM IQI , which has 6 wires.
