ROMANS 12:5 | ONE IN CHRIST

YOU CAN FACE IT

remains unchanging, the same way Jesus embraced changes.

GRAB: Share an experience in your life when you embraced change. How
was your experience?

GRACE: Read: Matthew 26:39

Facing Epic Change like Jesus. There are great things we can learn
from Jesus about facing changes.

1. Honesty
You might imagine that the one person who had “all authority
in heaven and on earth” would have a most heroic response to
change. Movie heroes are known for memorable and Tweet-able
brave declarations. Something along the lines of “Let’s do this” or
“Let’s roll.”
As He faces changes, Jesus’ heart turned to the Father in
prayer. “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from Me”
(Matt. 26:39). But, at the very least, we should be able to say what
Jesus said: “If it is possible, may this cup be taken from me.”
It is okay to admit that you don’t want to drink from the cup of
change that is before you. No one readily asks for discomfort or pain
or the unpredictable and unknown. When you think you need to show
God your heroics, show Him your honesty.
As you face change, what do you need to be honest about?
Face change by looking into the eyes of the Father with honesty.

2. Acceptance
Even though Jesus asked about removing the cup, He
immediately followed with “Yet not as I will, but as you will” (Matt.
26:39). His declaration was an undeniable acceptance of His Father’s
will. In light of the changes you are facing, have you made a similar
confession? You may not have the power, He does. So do yourself a
favour. Allow the Lord to work on your life and trust Him and His
plans. But, don’t just accept God’s will as a willing but passive
receiver of it. Take the next step of faith with your declaration. “May
your will be done.” (Matt. 26:42)

3. Confidence
God’s story and His active pursuit of you and me cannot
happen without change. For God’s word to be fulfilled, it must
happen this way. This way is His way, and His way involves change.
His way also involves you and me. Yet, like Jesus, we do not face
change alone. The Father was with Him. The Father is with us. The
Lord will not only stand beside you but will fight for you.
