CHAPTER I

PREFACE

I.1 BACKGROUND

The development of technologies in the world is increasing rapidly. To survive in

this technology era, undergraduate students need to have certain skills, such as
professionalism in finding alternative solutions for any futuristic problems which
rapidly occurred in the real industries, especially in energy industries. It is
necessary to build and develop this character of professionalism in preparing a
perfect, well-prepared, and competent engineer.

Furthermore, an undergraduate student should improve his/her skills and has a

good social interaction and communication with others so that he/she can be a
good workmate or partner for others. Social, cultural, environment, and lifestyle of
professional workers must be understood because things that we learned in
university sometimes are not the same with the reality we’ll find in the field.

However, to create professionalism soul, a student must have not only theoretical
knowledge of mechanical obtained from the university, but also applications of
those theoretical knowledge in the field.

According to that reason, Mechanical Engineering Department in Bandung Institute

of Technology agreed to make the Practical Training Program as an obligation
taken by students for better, higher quality, and well-prepared fresh graduate
students. Mechanical Engineering Department in Bandung Institute of Technology
requires the students to take field training or internship program in the 6th
semester. The students usually can take internships after finishing 6th semester of
studying. This internship program is expected can help the students to apply and
implement the knowledge of Mechanical Engineering as the requirement before

graduation. We would like to apply internship program with PT Chevron Pacific

Indonesia for 1 month and hope this internship can be a valuable and
advantageous experience for me in the future.

In the other hand, for company, practical training could be a good event in
searching for new human resources and evaluating the quality of undergraduate
students.

I.2 PURPOSES

The objectives of a practical training are:

1. To fulfill a requirement to graduate from Mechanical Engineering Department

or University.

2. To get chances in observing, comparing, and applying theories obtained from

university in the real condition.

3. To understand and get used to in working environment.

4. To get experiences and more knowledge about processes occurred in energy

industry especially in petroleum industry.

5. To improve the ability to think practically and systematically in solving

engineering problems, communication skills, and social skill in the industrial
world.

CHAPTER II

ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION

II.1 PLACE OF PRACTICAL TRAINING

I am intersted to join the practical training program that will be held in PT. Chevron
Pacific Indonesia, Rumbai, Pekanbaru, Riau.

II.2 TIME OF JOB TRAINING

I apply for the practical training program that will be held from July to August 2017
and for company consideration, I enclose my schedule in this second semester of
2016 -2017.

16th January until 17thMay 2017 : Regular lecture time

18thMay until 20th August 2017 : Holiday time (allocated for practical training
program)

According to the university requirement, the internship will take 1 month or in

accordance with the company policy.

Date : 3 July 2017 – 4 August 2017

If the implementation is not available at that time, the company may offer
another time at the discretion of the company.

II.3. CONTENTS

Some important related subjects that we have been completed during 6 semester
that support our internship are:

1. Engineering drawing (theory and practical)

2. Mechanical Drawing CAD Lab (theory and practical)
3. Statics
4. Strength of Materials
5. Kinematics and Dynamics of Machinery
6. Engineering Thermodynamics I and II
7. Engineering Materials
8. Electrical Drive System (theory and practical)
9. Design of Machine Elements I and II
10. Fluid Mechanics I and II
11. Engineering Measurements
12. Basic Mechanical Vibration
13. Heat Transfer I and II
14. Numerical Analysis
15. Control System

Based on above subjects that we have learned during 6 semester, we might be

suitable to have the topic as below:

1. Heat transfer analysis to predict heat loss to gain more thermal efficiency
2. Thermodynamics Cycle
3. Static machinery analysis
4. Rotating machinery operation and maintenance, pump
5. Component analysis to predict remaining life of the component structure
6. Fluid flow analysis and it’s measurement

However, if the above topics are not available this year, the company may offer
another topics which is still relevant to my background (Mechanical Engineering)

I realize that PT. Chevron Pacific Indonesia is one of successful oil companies in
exploration and production in Indonesia. PT. Chevron Pacific Indonesia is a world
well known oil company having a lot of experiences in the petroleum industry. The
sophisticated technologies, a lot of innovations, and experienced human resources
of PT. Chevron Pacific Indonesia would make great experiences for undergraduate
student, like me. According to that, I intend to apply a practical training program in
PT. Chevron Pacific Indonesia. I believe that I can get more knowledge and
experiences in both technical and practical skills to be a competent and well-
prepared mechanical engineer.

II.4 METHODS

The learning methods in this practical training that I would like to have are learning
and exploring typical cases and problems occurred in the field that related to
mechanical. Besides that, I would like to learn the softwares and tools of
mechanical engineering used in PT. Chevron Pacific Indonesia.

CHAPTER III

CLOSING
This is my proposal of Practical Training Program in PT. Chevron Pacific Indonesia.
I am looking forward to join this company in practical training program.
Considering my limitations, I hope PT. Chevron Pacific Indonesia could give me
supports and advices in having good quality time of this Practical Training Program.

The supports I expect that will be helpful for me are:

1. A tutor guiding me along the practical training.

2. Facilitation in doing observation and taking the necessary data needed.

3. Accommodation along practical training and transportation.

I arrange this proposal to complete all requirements for Practical Training Program
in PT. Chevron Pacific Indonesia. End of words, I thank you for your help and
