Graduate

APPLICATION STEPS
There are three steps to the graduate application process for the
Tyler School of Art and Architecture:

Step one: application

All students must complete the Tyler graduate application before their
respective program deadline. We recommend completing the application
as soon as possible, then submitting transcripts and standardized test
scores (if applicable). If your program requires a portfolio for admission,
please submit your portfolio via Temple SlideRoom.

Step two: transcripts

All students must submit transcripts from all previously attended
colleges and universities before the program deadline. You may submit
official transcripts directly from the institution electronically to
tyleradmissions@temple.edu or in a sealed envelope to:

Tyler Graduate Admissions

The Tyler School of Art and Architecture
Temple University
2001 N. 13th St.
Philadelphia, PA 19122

Tip: Transcripts sent to Temple University will experience significant

internal delays. Transcripts are not considered received until they arrive
at Tyler’s Office of Admissions so please make sure to designate Tyler.

Tip: Required supplemental items will automatically populate on your

application checklist after you submit the application and pay the fee.

Test scores, if required, should be submitted directly to Temple before the

program deadline by the testing agency, and must have been completed
in the last five years. This includes the GRE, MAT, TOEFL and IELTS. We
cannot accept paper copies of tests.

The Architecture, Art History and City & Regional Planning programs
all require GRE scores.

The Art Education program requires the submission of GRE or MAT

scores.
The Landscape Architecture program requires the submission of GRE
or GMAT scores.

MFA applicants are not required to submit GRE or MAT scores.

More on required academic materials can be found on the Temple
Graduate School website.

Step three: Tyler materials

All additional materials must be submitted though the Temple application
“Supplemental Items” section (with the exception of the portfolio):

Resume (all programs)

Statement of goals (all programs)
o In approximately 500–1,000 words, please include your interest in
Tyler’s program of choice, your research goals, your future career goals
and your academic and artistic achievements.

Three letters of recommendation (all programs)

o Recommendations are only accepted electronically. You must enter
email addresses for your references in the application system. Your
references will be contacted automatically and prompted to submit
letters by email.

Portfolios (Required for the MFA, MEd, MArch and MS Architecture

programs)
o Submit 20 pieces showcasing recently completed work in the
medium that you are applying to pursue. Note: Art Education
applicants should present a variety of their own recently completed
work, not their students'.
Writing sample (Art History only)

For programs that require a portfolio, you will be prompted in your

application to Temple SlideRoom. Select your program from the list and
submit your portfolio by the deadline.
Upon submission, copy the Submission ID number and paste it into the
“Supplemental Items” section of your Temple application to complete
that portion of the application.

Requirements vary for programs that require a portfolio. Please visit the
Graduate Bulletin for portfolio and other admissions information for your
specific program of interest.

For international students: A National Association of Credential

Evaluation Services or a World Education Services evaluation is
recommended. Transcripts that do not come from an evaluation agency
must be translated internally, which adds significant processing time.
Students submitting transcripts directly from their home institution
should do so six weeks prior to the application deadline. Learn more
about applying as an international student here.
