The Department Of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology

was established in 2003. The main philosophy behind the
mission and vision is providing quality services to clients with
Speech and Hearing issues who are central focus of all our ser-
vices.

Speech Diagnostic Services division
There are separate cubicles, equipped with various diagnostic

test materials. also, we have a recording room, with facilities to
record and store voice samples, in order to analyse and for moni-
toring the progress of therapy. We routinely carry out the follow-
ing:

 Assessment of Child language disorder

 Voice evaluation using PRAAT, Dr. Speech, Spirometry

 Bedside evaluation, whenever required
After such evaluation, we plan a therapy schedule, tailored to

suit the individual patient. We set the goals for therapy and a
timeline. After this, the patients are taken over by our Speech
Therapy division.

Patients are given individual speech therapy. Their progress is
monitored critically by our senior faculty.

Stuttering is a speech disorder
also called stammering or child-
hood-onset fluency disorder.
It involves frequent and significant
problems with normal fluency and
flow of speech.
CAUSES
 Abnormalities in speech motor
control.
 Genetics. .
 Neurogenic stuttering due to
stroke, traumatic brain injury, or
other brain disorders .
 Psychogenic stuttering due to
emotional trauma
SIGNS & SYMPTOMS
 Difficulty starting a word, phrase or sen-
tence
 Prolonging a word or sounds within a
word
 Repetition of a sound, syllable or word
 Brief silence for certain syllables or
words, or pauses within a word (broken
word)
 Addition of extra words such as "um" if
difficulty moving to the next word is an-
ticipated
 Excess tension, tightness, or movement
of the face or upper body to produce a
word
 Anxiety about talking
 Limited ability to effectively communi-
cate
The speech difficulties of stuttering may be
accompanied by:
 Rapid eye blinks
 Tremors of the lips or jaw
 Facial tics
 Head jerks
 Clenching fists
COMPLICATIONS
 Problems communicating with oth-
ers
 Being anxious about speaking
 Not speaking or avoiding situations
that require speaking
 Loss of social, school, or work par-
ticipation and success
 Being bullied or teased
 Low self-esteem
TREATMENT
 We provide varied services to cli-
ents with fluency disorders.
 Specialized intervention is pro-
vided with standardized subjective
and objective tools. Monitoring of
the client’s progress is done on a
biweekly basis.
 Usage of remedial approaches
such as
 Modified Air-flow technique,
 Delayed Auditory Feedback,
 Metronome, etc….,
