1.1. Verb to Be
Am, is, are son las formas del presente del verbo to be (ser o
estar). Este verbo actua como si fueran dos verbos, en realidad
lo son, como veremos:
I am an oil engineer.
You are in the oil company
He is a welder
She is a scientist
It is a hard hat
We are in santa cruz
You are safety inspectors
They are electricians
Negative Form
I am not a doctor
You are not near the derrick
He is not a biologist
She is not a secretary
It is not a drill bit
We are not in Pando
You are not welders
They are not in the office

1 foot = 12 inches

Form (Forma)
Para conjugar el presente simple usamos el infinitivo para los
sujetos “I”, “you”, “we” y “they” y para las terceras personas
“he”, “she” y “it”, añadimos una “-s” al final del verbo.

DURING THE WORK (PRESENT PROGRESIVE)
El presente progresivo
(the present continuous o the present progressive) se usa para
hablar de una acción que está ocurriendo en este momento.
I am eating a sandwich.
Estoy comiendo un sándwich.
Repaso de to be
El presente progresivo se forma con el verbo to be en el presente.
Aquí hay un ejemplo de la conjugación del verbo to eat
He/she is eating.
Él/Ella está comiendo.
We are eating.
Nosotros estamos comiendo.
Contracciones
No estoy
I'm not running. ---
corriendo.
No estás
You're not talking. You aren't talking.
hablando.
No estamos
We're not eating. We aren't eating.
comiendo.
Formas interrogativas
Para hacer preguntas usando the present progressive, hay que
invertir el sujeto y la forma conjugada de to be. Comparamos la
forma afirmativa con la forma interrogativa.
Form (Forma)
Para formar el pasado simple con verbos regulares, usamos el
infinitivo y añadimos la terminación “-ed”. La forma es la
misma para todas las personas (I, you, he, she, it, we, they).
Ejemplos:
want → wanted
learn → learned
stay → stayed
walk → walked
show → showed
Excepciones:
Do did
Have had
Pronunciation (Pronunciación)
Pronunciamos la terminación “-ed” de forma diferente
dependiendo de la letra que va al final del infinitivo. En
general la “e” es muda.
1. Con los infinitivos que terminan
en “p”, “f”, “k” o “s” (consonantes sordas, excepto “t”)
pronunciamos la terminación “-ed” como una “t”.
Ejemplos:

kissed[kisst]

1. Affirmative Sentences (Frases afirmativas)
Ejemplos:
She was a doctor.(Era doctora.)
The keys were in the drawer.(Las llaves estaban en el cajón.)
I wanted to dance.(Quería bailar.)
They learned English.(Aprendieron inglés.)
We believed him.(Le creímos.)
I bought a blue car.(Compré un coche azul.)
To be:
Sujeto + “to be” + “not”…
Ejemplos:
She wasn’t a doctor.(Ella no era doctora.)
The keys weren’t in the drawer.(Las llaves no estaban en el
cajón.)
Ejemplos:
I didn’t want to dance.(No quería bailar.)
They didn’t learn English.(No aprendieron inglés)
We didn’t believe him.(No le creímos.)
I didn’t buy a blue car.(No compré un coche azul.)
Ejemplos:
Was she a doctor?(¿Era doctora?)
Were the keys in the drawer?(¿Estaban las llaves en el
cajón?)
