Abstract
The simulation of the combustion for the prediction of the processes and the physical variables, is
rather complex when detailed mechanisms are used. The reduced mechanisms of reactions, involving
a small number of steps and chemical species, are thus of paramount importance. The CSP method
was applied for the reduction of the detailed mechanism GRI-3.0 in a laminar premixed CH4/Air flame.
The algorithm S-STEP identifies the steady-state species, the corresponding fast reaction of these
steady-state species and constructs the reduced mechanism. This algorithm required as input: the
detailed mechanism, a numerical solution of the problem and the desired number of steps in the
reduced mechanism. A 7-step mechanism is constructed. The solution of the model by using the
reduced mechanism required the solution of nonlinear steady-state equations. The point relaxation
algorithm is used for the solution of these nonlinear equations. Numerical results were obtained, for
different richness ( =0.8, 1.0 and 1.2), on the basis of the 7-step global mechanism, and were
compared with those computed on the basis of the detailed mechanism.
