 Is it oky to cry at work?

Q#1: What factors do you think make some organizations ineffective at managing emotions?

A: According to my understanding, emotions are what make humans different from plants and
animals (Animals do have emotions, but they are less expressive). Emotions and feelings could
separate a living person from the dead. Therefore, in all aspects of the life where emotions
should be taken care of, workplace is no exception. Organizations that use fear and anger to
control and manipulate the employees are liable to be called ineffective at managing emotions.
Employees don’t show their true impulsive reactions to the emotional outburst because they
fear that they will be considered as weak and emotionally ineffective. In such organizations,
anger is acceptable and sadness or crying is deemed as being weak, regardless of the fact that
anger could generate serious consequences. Emotional displays are permitted in such
organizations, but they are handled very poorly.

Q#2: Do you think the strategic use and display of emotions serve to protect employees, or
does covering your true emotions at work lead to more problems than it solves?

A: It varies organization to organization, because every organization has different culture and
their individuals on the key positions (whom decisions are called organization’s decisions) have
different attitudes and thus have different responses to different scenarios. However, in
general view, display of emotions shouldn’t be at all prohibited in organizations, because
covering what you are keeping inside and not letting it out will not solve the problem. An
employee, who is not sharing his resentment, will continuously feel detached/ alien to his
surroundings.
