General Information

For your Safety

Safety Principle

In this manual, the important safety consideration is like the followings:

Warning It stands for risk of hazards. This symbol alerts you to

operating procedure, actual operation and actual conditions,
etc. Wrong operation of the instrument can result in personal
injury to yourself or other persons or in death.

Caution It stands for risk of hazards. This symbol alerts you to

operating procedure, actual operation and actual conditions, etc.
Wrong operation would cause instrument damage partly or
absolutely, even destruct.

Care It underlines the important information. This symbol alerts you

to necessary operating process, actual operation as well as

actual conditions, etc.

The Product Safety issues

Your Humidity measure system has been safety-tested and verified in

SICK|HAIHAK. Please be ware of the follows:

-1-
Warning Put the machine to earth. To avoid thunderbolt, check relevant
instrument every some days.

Care Do not modify measure unit, improper modification can cause instrument

damage or lead to breakdown.

Electrostatic Discharge(ESD)Protection

Electrostatic discharge can damage electronic circuits directly or

indirectly. Products manufactured by SICK|MAIHAK are filled with
sufficient ESD measures. However, it sill causes electrostatic damage in
the internal circuitry within the touch/mobile devices or while the
internal circuits access other devices.

To prevent Pressure-Electrostatic damage:

— Please handle static sensitive components on the electrostatic

discharge table, the circuits are reasonably put to earth
simultaneously.

— If the above is impossible, release static electricity on your body

before contact with the circuit board. Operators should wear ESD wrist
and a resistive connection cord.

— If both of the above can be impossible, one hand of operators should

contact with conductive body, the other hand touches the circuit board.

— Try to touch the edges of circuit board, and avoid touching components
directly.

-2-
Environmental Protection

Cycle use of renewable materials.

According to local laws, disposing of used batteries and

instrumentation, to be dealt with, which are separate
from household garbage.

Feedback

SICK|MAIHAK is always glad to accept suggestions and proposals about

the manual from our customers respectfully. If you find a mistake or think
up superior opinions, please note correlative chapters, paragraphs and
pages.

License agreement

Both SICK|MAIHAK and the 3rd-party have the soft copyright, only after
contracting with SICK|MAIHAK or acquiring software license, the customers
can make use of the software.

Warranty Limitations

Once the Humidity measure system is delivered, SICK|MAIHAK

-3-
immediately make one-year warranty. The warranty does not include normal
wear and tear, abnormal condition of operation, installation and
operation of negligence, or unauthorized modifications. Please note that
the supply-contract or sales contract on the details of each machine
warranty.

Chapter Ⅱ

Overview

Generally speaking, heat gas is produced by coal-fired power

generation projects in the thermal power industry, as a kind of special
media, the range of its general temperature is from 40 to 150 degrees
centigrade, in particular cases perhaps reaches 160 degrees centigrade.
Meanwhile, the flue gas usually includes the dust and acidic substances
such as SO2, NOX, etc. How to overcome the heat, high dust and acid
substances to ensure the online measurement of flue gas humidity is a
rather difficult problem. At the present time, one indirect measurement
method universally used in china: measuring oxygen of wet-dry flue gas,
subsequently calculating, acquiring the flue gas humidity value finally.
The leading deficiency of the method is that measurement value of lag and
low accuracy, which can not meet the need of heat gas measurements.

Universal humidity measurement methods: condensation, wet-dry ball,

weighing method, dew point method and the electronic sensor method.
Electronic humidity sensor products and humidity measurement arise from
1990s. In recent years, the research and development of humidity sensor
has made a great achievement at home and abroad. The measurement of gas
humidity in the direction of current development abroad generally resorts
to capacitance electronic measurement, whereas the measurement applied
in heat needs to overcome heat, dust, acid substances wearing and
corrupting polymer film capacitance.

In allusion to the above deficiencies of existing technologies, SMC-209C

flue gas humidity measure system uses anti-wear and anticorrosive devices
so that the dust, heat and acid corrosion are overcome, with the help of
which, online, long-term as well as stable measurement of heat gas
humidity can be acquired. And online RC-type heat gas humidity measure
system is protected effectively, what is more, it can does long-term,

-5-
stable work without influencing the accuracy.

This manual contains information on installation, operation and

maintenance of SMC-209 C gas humidity measure system. The measure range
of SMC-209 C flue gas humidity system is 0-40Vol%.

Installation

Installation diagram of Humidity measure system refers to Figure 2 below.

and equipment inlet needs to be maintained.

Cable Connection

Use 4-core cable with a screen as analog output / serial communication

cable. The definition of cables is corresponding to the numbers of tubes
as follows:

-9-
220V-PE = Protect Earth
220V-L = 220VAC Live wire
220V-N = 220VAC Neutral wire
H2O(4-20mA+) = gas humidity H2O output signal cable +
H2O(4-20mA-) = gas humidity H2O output signal cable _

Connection of Number and Power wires

- 10 -
Caution If there is electromagnetic disturbance in the industrial
conditions(such as motors), screen cables or independent
signal cables are advised to use.

Warning Turn off power supply while connecting wires

1. Connect the analog output cables with the terminals: H2O (4-20mA +,4
-20mA-).
2. Connect the power wires with the terminals 220VAC (L, N, PE).
3. Now, Humidity measure system is to work normally.

Chapter Ⅳ Operation

This chapter contains all of the operating information.

Start-up Operation

The start-up time of SMC-209C humidity measure system is approximate 20

minutes. After given power supply, SMC-209C becomes preheating-state and
lasts approximate 14 minutes, and the index lamp is on. While
preheating-state accomplishes, the index lamp would be off, SMC-209C
measure system becomes measure-state, and output data would be enabled.

Serial Communication

SMC-290 C could communicate by using the RS232 serial port, amend and
inquire the current measurements as well.

The default settings for Serial communication

Parameters value
baud 2400
Parity none
data bits 8
Stop bit 1
flow control no

- 13 -
Using Serial commands to adjust H2O (vol%)

1. Maintain sensor stability during at least 5 hours

2. Serial baud rate is raised to 2400 bit
Serial input: modi ppmv xx
Adjust with the command : modi ppmv xx
For example
>modi ppmv 0.5
OK
H2O has been more 0.5 vol% than the basic value

With the command: modi ppmv? Inquire the current value of H2O amendment
For example
> modi ppmv ?
0.5000
It indicates that H2O amendment value is 0.5Vol%.

ChapterⅤ Routine maintenance and normal fault clearing

Routine maintenance

Cleanness

Use the soft and wet linen dipped into neutral cleanser to clean the
transmitter.

Replace the probe of filter

1. Remove the filter from the top of probe.

2. Fix a new filter on the top of the probe. Screw the filter properly
while using a stainless steel filter.

Common faults and fault clearance

Phenomena of the faults Possible causes of the Solutions of the faults

faults
Normal output temperature, Vol% Probe with dew N2 gas blowing

Chapter Ⅵ Calibration & Adjustment

Instrument Calibration & Adjustment

SMC-209 C has been carried out strict calibration and adjustment in the
factory. Typical calibration period is two years. According to different
applications, more frequent inspections would be better. When you doubt
that the accuracy of device is out of index range, the device must be
calibrated.

Recommend performing calibration and adjustment in the customer service

center laboratories.
