Rules Regulations and Safety Precautions to be followed by Participants during The

Himalaya Outbound Programme (HOP 2019)

With reference to the Paragraph undertaking submitted by you highlighted in yellow colour
as under:

“I declare that I will abide by all the rules and regulations as stated in Part A and Part
B of the host while on the Himalayan Outbound Programme.”.

Part A: Rules to be followed by All HOP participants

1. Trekking in high altitudes of Himalayas requires physical preparation. Participants are


expected to prepare physically for the trek. Cardiovascular, strength and flexibility
training is critically important. An ability to jog for 20 mins and cover a distance of 3.5
kms is considered minimum preparation.
2. Any physical ailments, disabilities to be informed to HOP Team/ concerned vendor by
email well in advance.
3. No smoking or drinking is allowed in program. It is extremely dangerous in high
altitudes. Anyone found smoking or drinking or any other hallucinogenic/narcotic
substances will be debarred from the program. Moreover the institute will take further
strict actions against participants found involving in such activities, upon their return to
the institute.
4. Any damage to the property / teaching aids/ equipment of vendor by any group
member (s) will be recovered from the entire group and those member(s) will be asked
to withdraw.
5. At the end of all the HOP activities, the vendor and the IIM representative(s) finally
endorse the completion of HOP by a participant to gain the 4 credits. The participant
who do not cooperate and participate (unless any exigency situation) in all the activities
of the HOP can be awarded "Incomplete (I)" or an equivalent of “Fail (F)” grade.
Participants found involved in discipline related issues during the HOP will also be
awarded an I or an F grade equivalent. The final decision regarding the grade to be
awarded in such cases will be taken by the PGP chair, the HOP Coordinator and the
PGP office.
6. Participants are not allowed to bring two-wheelers to commute to and from their
respective base camp locations for HOP 2019. Students violating this norm will be
awarded I or F grade as deemed appropriate by the institute authorities.

Vendor specific Rules, Regulations and Safety precautions: IndiaHikes HOP Participants (at
Dayara , Bedani and Kedarkantha)

Safety precautions for the IIM Mountain Challenge:


1. Every group is accompanied by a trek leader who is trained to handle emergencies.
He knows how to administer first aid, address altitude related problems and administer

emergency medications. A high altitude medical kit always accompanies every group
on the trek. An evacuation team is ready in case a trekker has to be brought down to
a safer camp. A stretcher also accompanies the team when they are on the trek.
2. It is mandatory for all trekkers to get their oxygen saturation levels measured at all our
trekking camps above 9,000 feet. Our trek leaders carry oxygen saturation meters.
Anyone with a reading of 80% and below will be sent down for more oxygenation. A
reading of 85% is worrying but not dangerous.
3. It is also mandatory for all trekkers to get their pulse checked at all camps above 9,000
feet. Blood pressure tests are conducted on trekkers who display symptoms of
altitude sickness.
4. Supplementary oxygen is available at all camps.
5. Safety of women is of the utmost importance and our trek leaders keep this as a
priority. We also have 4-5 women volunteers on each slope to accompany the teams.
6. All participants will undergo mandatory oxymeter reading test starting from Camp
Participants whose readings are found below the standard acceptable limit will be
asked to discontinue the program.
7. Indiahikes carries oxygen, high altitude medical kit and trained trek leaders who will
carry out any medical emergencies.
8. For medical emergencies which require hospitalization, an evacuation system is in
place that will move the affected participant to the nearest hospital.
9. Smoking and drinking are strictly prohibited. Anyone found smoking or drinking will
be debarred from the program.Random checks will be performed regularly by the
vendor for such substances.
10. Anyone diagnosed with Acute Mountain Sickness ( very rare) will be administered
the necessary medication by the trek leader
11. Any damage to the property / teaching aids/ equipment of vendor by any group
member (s) will be recovered from the entire group and those member (s) will be asked
to withdraw.
12. At the end of all the HOP activities, vendor and IIM representative finally endorse the
completion of HOP by a participant to gain the 4 credits. The participant who do not
cooperate and participate (unless any exigency situation) in all the activities of the
HOP can be awarded "Incomplete (I)" of “Fail (F)” grade.

Vendor specific Rules, Regulations and Safety precautions: Rural Traveler HOP
Participants

Physical fitness

 Trekking in the foot-hills of Himalayas requires physical preparation. Participants are


expected to prepare physically for the program. Cardiovascular, strength and flexibility
training is critically important. An ability to jog for 20 mins and cover a distance of 2.5 kms
is considered to be a minimum preparation.

It is considered that you have read and understood the Part A and Part B rules, regulations,
safety precautions while submitting undertaking to PGP Office. We assume that you have
already informed your parents and taken their signature on undertaking before submission.

Rules and regulations

 The participants from all the groups will be divided into 4 teams of 9-11 members
(preferably not more than 11).
 All team will participate in various events based on schedule prepared for each event.
Organizer will assigned the each team to day wise to various events.
 Allocation of participants to various accommodation will also be done by organizer.
 Follow the instructions of the Rural Traveler staff or other instructor in-charge of the events
during outdoor activities.
 Work in groups and move in groups (avoid going around individually) and always carry
the first-aid kit.
 Smoking and drinking are strictly prohibited. Anyone found smoking or drinking will be
debarred from the program.
 Follow the Camp rules and respect the discipline and norms.
 Be considerate to the fellow participants in sharing spaces, resources and tasks.
 Cooperate with the group and the faculty to make the program useful and valuable for all.
 Any damage to the property / teaching aids/ equipment of vendor by any group member
(s) will be recovered from the entire group and those member (s) will be asked to withdraw.
 At the end of all the HOP activities, vendor and IIM representative finally endorse the
completion of HOP by a participant to gain the 4 credits. The participant who do not

can be awarded "Incomplete (I)" grade.

Safety precautions

 The entire frontline camp staff is certified in conducting adventure activities. The
certification is done from the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering - Uttarkhashi. Apart from
the certification our team has an experience of more than a decade now.
 Any physical ailments, disabilities etc are to be informed to the Faculty by email well in
advance
 In case of injury or sudden illness, inform the Faculty or the instructor and let them handle
the situation and do as told by them.
