Dear Sir/Madam,
We at Amity University would like to extend a warm invitation to your Institution for the 9th edition of Amity
International Model United Nations (AMIMUN’20), which is to be held from 17th to 19th of January 2020 at
Amity University, Uttar Pradesh, Noida, India.
Our vision is where modernity blends with tradition. At Amity we do not just impart world-class education,
but here everyone associated is a part of the mission that nurtures truly great leaders, by emphasizing on their
overall holistic development as individuals. AMIMUN shares in the effort to bring this vision to fruition,
creating a platform for students to ideate and deliberate on various world issues, keeping in tow with the
paradigms of the United Nations. We are one of the few conferences across India that creates an inviting
atmosphere which is integral in generating constructive discourse; taking stringent measures to uphold and
maintain the safe space that is sacred to us at AMIMUN. While here, the delegates participating are provided
with local transport, accommodation, and hospitality, ensuring that their stay in the heart the National Capital
Region of India is a memorable one. The mix of culture and intellectual discourse allows for vital development
within a delegate’s character, equipping them with the skills essential to one’s success.
It is through the roaring success of the previous editions that we are recognized as one of the top MUNs across
India and have carved a niche in the International circuit. This year, AMIMUN’20 will simulate eight
committees as well as the International Press, spearheaded by an initiative to ban single-use plastics over the
period of the conference. An amalgamation of renowned executive board members and a unique set of agendas
promise a world-class conference for all delegates, helping them move a step closer to becoming the
policymakers of tomorrow.
AMIMUN has stood by themes that have depicted global scenarios and constructed a benchmark for itself
through each consecutive editions, a few of which have had time centric themes such as Humanity before
Mankind in 2016, and Ignition for Tomorrow in 2018, influencing global narratives at a base level. To this
end the theme for the ninth edition, AMIMUN’20, is Audere Est Facere, Latin for ‘To Dare is To Do’.
By following this theme, we wish to encourage the delegates to engage in debate that is thought-provoking
and will yield forth solutions to the pressing issues in the world today. We believe that actions speak louder
than words, which is why it is when one makes bold decisions, the results are electrifying. This shall be a
platform which strives to enable students from all over the world, so they may move towards a future where
they are then capable of achieving what others wouldn’t dare dream of.
Despite living in an era of progress, human rights violations are increasingly prevalent in the current
discourse. Thus the mandate of the Humans Rights Council, to promote “universal respect for the
protection of all human rights and fundamental freedoms for all” is something that must be enforced and
deliberated upon. The delegates in the Council must uphold the highest standards in the promotion and
protection of human rights. As a result of its discussions, the Council may issue resolutions calling on
States to take specific actions or uphold certain principles, or it may create mechanisms to investigate or
monitor questions of concern.
Agenda: “Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and related intolerance monitoring and
implementation of the Durban Declaration and Program of Action.”
With hindsight comes the ability to better understand the flaws in decisions taken in the past. If one had
the chance to alter the course of mankind for the better, they would.
The UN Security Council is one of the most powerful organs of the UN, distinctly endowed with the ability
to actively enforce world peace, playing a precautionary and a reactionary role to that end. The Council
can also mandate decisive action such as peace talks, mediations, negotiations, and meetings. Additionally,
according to Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter, the Council can approve the use of force if there
is no other way to maintain international peace. The Security Council can also deploy UN peacekeeping
operations and impose sanctions on states.
Agenda: “Deliberation on the situation in Cyprus (Freeze date: 16th July 1974)”
It is imperative to grasp and deal with issues that evolve as fast as the world we live in. To truly prepare
for the evolution of those issues, the Futuristic General Assembly is set in a paradigm where those issues
have taken root. With its overarching goal of maintaining international peace and security, the Futuristic
General Assembly is the one place the requires all delegates to tackle problems that affect all nations and
propose solutions to the problems a state would have in the future. It is here that delegates are mandated
to pass on recommendations and advice to any other council within the UN on any topic, excluding matters
of peace and security that are under consideration by the Security Council.
The Futuristic General Assembly (FGA) assumes that we are in the future wherein certain developments
and progress have been made in terms of technological advancements, economic and political sectors with
respect to each member state’s state profile. Based on such advancements in the world decision making
on necessary agendas need to be made.
Agenda: “Reviewing the success of SDGs 6, 7, 11 and 13 in lieu of the rising sea levels, submerging cities
and acute water crisis.” (Freeze date: September 2029)
Chairperson: Imran Ahmad Ali
Vice-Chairperson: Shivam Gupta
Agenda: “Reviewing the implementation of SDG 5 and the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action
1995 to achieve Generational Equality for women's rights and an Equal Future.”
The Commission on Narcotic Drugs is responsible for supervising the application of the international drug
control treaties. It reviews and analyses the global situation, issues of drug abuse and prevention, along
with a supply of illicit drugs, as delegates strive to introduce solutions which would globally better quality
of life.
As part of the central policy-making body within the United Nations dealing with drug-related matters,
member states must curate innovative solutions to one of the biggest issues in today’s age. Delegates will
require all their skills to deliberate and come up with solutions with the aim of eradicating drug-related
issues from the globe.
Agenda: “Discussing measures to control drug trafficking with special emphasis on fraudulent medicines”
Trade is no longer just an exchange of goods and services between two states, but a tool to implement the
will of a nation over another. The WTO is one of the most influential organizations functioning in the
domain of international trade. In its role as a regulator, the WTO provides frameworks to ensure
participation and fairness in international trade. The delegates that are a part of the WTO, must not only
create sustainable policies for fair trade but also ensure their interests survive in an increasingly
hegemonised trade environment.
Agenda: “Building Trade capacity of least developed countries with additional emphasis of the effect of
tariff competition between countries”
While each MUNer is unique owing to their own individual style of debate and approach to the activity,
we think there are a few shared qualities common to all.
A Continuous Crisis Committee represents the culmination of the best qualities of a MUN.
Quick thinking, solution-oriented approach and a penchant for stimulating actionable change, are all
brought to life in a Continuous Crisis Committee. Not only is the Continuous Crisis Committee one of the
most challenging committees, but it also condenses principles from a wide array of Organs of World
Governance. This presents in a Committee that is not only novel in its agenda, but also completely unique
in its execution.
Agenda: “Classified”
India has often been hailed globally as the most successful exercise in the idea of democracy. A large part
of its success is owed to the diversity within, often serving as an integral aspect of the Indian identity itself.
The AIPPM is a symposium that allows the diverse political groups of India to reach a consensus on
decisions of national importance. The committee aims to mirror reality by reproducing the stages of
policies and jurisdiction, with delegates representing personalities from a diverse group of Indian political
parties and ideologies. The Delegates represent the wide gamut of ideologies in Indian Politics, but also
the wide array of solutions emerging from these ideologies.
Agenda: “Discussion on Freedom of Speech and Expression with special emphasis on Freedom of
Literature Bill”
"In a post-truth era, reportage not only defines access to information but also the perception of truth itself."
At AMIMUN’20 we believe that the job of International Press is one that requires utmost commitment,
sincerity and belief in the ideals of media itself. Reporting during AMIMUN’20 will require a
conscientious and diligent approach to provide emphasis on not only the substantive policy changes that
occur but how that change translates into the real world.
As the International Press Corps, it is one's prerogative to bring out the truth to the masses and make
certain there is democratized access to the functioning of the various organs of AMIMUN'20. It is your
imperative, in this era of freedom; to that ensure change must be accessible to all.
