The country I choose is Iraq.

Iraq is a choice because Iraq is one of the country with largest oil
reserves in the world and have faced war situations recently. I wanted to study the impact of war
on the country’s energy production and electricity consumption due to it. The data required for
analysis is taken from World Bank database that is world development indicators. Iraq is a
member of OPEC that is organization of petroleum exporting countries. Iraq is second largest
producer from OPEC countries and Iraq’s economy is majorly dependent on the export of oil.
Iraq got $60 billion from export of oil in year 2017 that is 89% of Iraq’s expenditure.

The above graph is about the energy production in Iraq and the GDP growth. Through this graph,
I wanted to see whether there is any correlation between GDP growth and energy production.
The orange line that is series 2 signifies the GDP growth whereas the blue line shows the energy
production in the country. As we can see that there is deep in GDP, growth in year 1995 and it
remain continuous in upcoming years. America invaded Iraq in year 2003 and we can see a
decrease in energy production and the GDP growth thus although it is not that very much clear
that there is any correlation between the GDP growth and energy production in country.

The above graph talks about the electricity production in Iraq in blue line that is series one. The
orange line is energy production mentioned in series two. The motive behind this graph was to see
the impact of war on the electricity production in the country and we can clearly see in the graph
2 that, the electricity production has reduced substantially in after the year 2003. The energy
production and electricity production shows the relation during and after the war time it’s may be
because the infrastructure required to produce electricity as well as there can be a decrease in
demand for electricity as in war time many industries will shut down. This can be the reasons for
the decrease in the electricity production. The decrease in energy production has been
supplemented by import of the electricity production from Iraq.
As we can see the green shade shows the import of electricity by Iraq and in that the import of
electricity has been started by the year 2003 that is year America invaded Iraq.
