1. Who are some of the scholars known for leadership research?

Bernard Morris Bass (June 11, 1925 – October 11, 2007)


- Was an American scholar in the fields of leadership studies and organizational behavior. He was
distinguished professor emeritus in the School of Management at Binghamton University, where he
was also the founding director of the Center for Leadership Studies.
- He was a founding editor-in-chief of Leadership Quarterly. He was also a fellow of the Society for
Industrial and Organizational Psychology and the Academy of Management.
- He is well known for his research on transformational leadership, which was inspired by the work
of James MacGregor Burns.
- His Bass Handbook of Leadership has been described as "the authoritative resource book in
leadership".
John Robert Putnam French Jr. (August 07, 1913 – October 14, 1995)
- Was a Professor Emeritus in psychology from the University of Michigan.
- He may be best known for his collaboration with Bertram Raven on French and Raven's Five bases of
Power in 1959.
Bertram Herbert Raven (born September 26, 1926)
- is an American academic, who has been a member of the faculty of the Psychology Department
at UCLA since 1956, where he is currently a professor emeritus.
- He is perhaps best known for his early work in collaboration with John R. P. French, with whom he
developed an analysis of the Five Bases of social power.
Daniel V. Simonet
- He is currently an Assistant Professor of Industrial-Organizational Psychology at Montclair State
University where he teaches Personnel Selection, Leadership, Organizational Psychology, and
Psychometrics.
Robert Tett
- Director of Industrial/Organizational Psychology
- Professor of Psychology
Alan Bryman
- was Professor of Organisational and Social research at the University of Leicester, prior to this Bryman
spent 31 years at Loughborough University
- has also published widely on leadership, organisational culture and management.

2. Describe the leadership classification scheme proposed by Bass.

He implies that certain definitions consider leadership to be the focus of group processes. The chief is in the
center of community transition and activity from this viewpoint and represents the group's desire.

4. Describe the differences between assigned leadership and emergent leadership.

Assigned leadership is based on the position you hold in an organization. Leadership that is based on
occupying a position in an organization

Emergent leadership emerges over a period through communication. Others perceive you as the leader.
People support and accept you as the leader. Not formally assigned by position; emerges through
communication

5. Explain the six types of power identified by French and Raven.

Climate change is one of the greatest challenge of our time and the stakes could not be higher for entrepreneurs.
It also contributes to increased frequency of natural disasters, rise in flows of refugees, and global conflict over food
and water. Climate change is a threat to our security, indeed to our very survival.

Personal Power - The influence capacity a leader derives from being seen by followers as likable and knowledgeable

6. Describe the similarities and differences between leadership and management.

Management includes focusing on planning, organizing, staffing, directing and controlling while Leadership is
primarily part of the management function. Leaders focus on listening building relationships, working together,
inspiring, motivating followers, and persuading them.

Management & Leadership are both involve influence, working with people and concerned with effective goal
accomplishment.

7. What does it mean to lead oneself?

Learning to lead yourself well is one of the most important things you’ll ever do as a leader. The point of leading
is not to cross the finish line first; it’s to take people across the finish line with you. Leading yourself, well means that
you hold yourself to a higher standard of accountability than others do.

Before you can lead others, you must be able to lead yourself. If you cannot lead yourself, others won’t follow,
respect, listen, trust and understand you.
