FIRST SPEAKER (GOVERNMENT)

A Very good morning to the honourable adjudicators, my worthy opponents and members of the
house. We are here today to debate the motion that “This house agrees that kids mental
disorder are caused ONLY by wrong models in the family’. Before we proceed with our
arguments, I would like to first redefine the topic of today’s debate.

We define
Kids are children under 13 years old. Or synonym as child, youngster, little one, young one,
baby, toddler, infant, boy/girl and young person.or the adolescent

MENTAL DISORDER are mentality problems such as Anxiety & panic attacks, Bipolar
disorder , Depression , Eating disorders , Obsessive-compulsive disorder, Personality disorder ,
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Psychosis.

Model is a person looked to by others, as an example to be imitated.

Family is a group consisting of two parents and their children living together as a unit or those
who are blood related or not, or a group consist of people living together and share emotional
support.

Thus, we stand firmly by the topic that This house agrees that kids mental disorder are caused
ONLY by wrong models in the family as it is very obvious in what we had seen, learnt and
search in any source of information.

In order to present our case, I Nur Arfah Amani as the Prime Minister will introduce my
argument in a minute. After that, my 1st Minister, sir Muhammad Afiq Aiman will reaffirm our
stand on the topic and rebut the argument put forward by the Opposition. Then, he will present
TWO more arguments in the premise of today’s topic . Following that, my 3rd Minister, miss
Nurul Syakirah will rebut ALL the arguments made by the Opposition and reaffirm our stand for
this motion. Finally, my second speaker would sum up our case by delivering The Reply
Speech.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

To our first point

Kids mental disorder is caused by trauma.

Childhood mental illness may be a reaction to environmental stresses, including trauma like
being the victim of verbal, physical, sexual abuse or any bad environment within family
members.
Basically ,the problematic parents are usually having a fight in front of their kids. Whenever the
war started to begin, the kids will also be included and this will lead them to emotionally
insecure. Fighting will undermines kids’ sense of security about the stability of the family.
Children exposed to a lot of fighting may worry about divorce or wonder when one parent’s
silent treatment is going to end. It can make it difficult for them to have a sense of normalcy in
the family since fights may be unpredictable
.
Children who suffer from child traumatic stress is absolutely abused by their parents. On 7 Disember
2018 a 10 years old boy had been abused by his father and left injuries to the whole body and sadly
to say that the kid has died due to multiple blunt trauma to the whole body. The pressure that
the parent is facing will definitely affect their mental and end up abusing their
children. This can make the kids feel depressed and obviously traumatized due to the
physically abused from their parents.

Well, ladies and gentlemen, so it is very clear that ‘Kids mental disorder is caused by
trauma.’before I take my seat, let me reaffirm our stand that ‘This house agrees that kids
mental disorder are caused ONLY by wrong models in the family’ . But let me remind you - Our
fight does not end here. My ministers will continue to fight for this motion and you will see how
true we are.

With that, I thank you.

SECOND SPEAKER (GOVERNMENT)

Thank you Mr./Madam,

A very good morning to the honourable adjudicators, my worthy opponents and members of the
house. Before I proceed with my arguments I would like to first re-define the topic of today’s debate.

______________ NOT _____________________________________________

(definition from Prime Minister opponent)

Thus, we agree/refuse the definition given by the Opposition. Our stand still and we believe that ‘’(title
topic)’’

(REBUT - listen to his/her point and write down what you don’t agree)

The Leader of the Opposition mentioned that -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------.
We disagree with him/her . We believe that --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------.

Ladies and gentlemen,

To my first point-

Mental illness in families

Mental illnesses in parents represent a risk for children in the family. These children
have a higher risk for developing mental illnesses than other children. When both
parents are mentally ill, the chance is even greater that the child might become mentally
ill.

The risk is particularly strong when a parent has one or more of the following: Bipolar
Disorder, an anxiety disorder, Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder , schizophrenia,
alcoholism or other drug abuse, or depression. Risk can be inherited from parents,
through the genes.

An inconsistent, unpredictable family environment also contributes to psychiatric illness

in children. Mental illness of a parent can put stress on the marriage and affect the
parenting abilities of the couple, which in turn can harm the child. Unfortunately,
families, professionals, and society often pay most attention to the mentally ill parent,
and ignore the children in the family. Providing more attention and support to the
children of a psychiatrically ill parent is an important consideration when treating the
parent.

Schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is one of mental illness that comes by genetic. It is a

chronic and severe mental disorder that affects how a person thinks, feels, and
behaves. Scientists have long known that schizophrenia sometimes runs in families.
There are some symptoms that cause schizophrenia, such as Hallucinations, Delusions,
Thought disorders which means unusual or dysfunctional ways of thinking, and
Movement disorders which means agitated body movements.

Ladies and gentlemen,

To our last point is parental controlling

Parents who exert psychological control over their children could risk damaging them for
life, a new study has by University College London has warned.
The effect of the damage caused is comparable to the mental anguish a person feels
after the death of a close friend or relative, the researchers warned.
Not allowing a child to make their own decisions, invading their privacy and creating
dependence, were all found to harm a child's mental wellbeing.
Researchers followed a group of more than 5,000 people from their births in 1946. Their
findings highlight how parenting can have a long-term impact on mental wellbeing.

A study has found that 2-year-old children with strict and demanding mothers are worse
at controlling their emotions and impulses by the age of 5.
Children who struggle to contain their behaviour at that age in turn have fewer social
skills and do worse in school at 10.
US psychologists, who studied 422 children over eight years, suggest those with
overbearing mothers may develop worse self-control because they cannot practise this
independently.
Dr Nicole Perry, who led the study at the University of Minnesota, said: “Our research
showed that children with helicopter parents may be less able to deal with the
challenging demands of growing up, especially with navigating the complex school
environment.”
The study judged helicopter parents, so-named for their habit of looming above their
children, using a four-minute play task and two minutes cleaning up toys afterwards. All
this could lead to mental disorder and also a stressful life to the kids who are controlled
by their parents.
Parents who exert too much control over their children could be causing them lifelong
psychological damage.Hence, mental in families and parental controlling are the main
causes for this kids mental disorder. Thus we also believe that kids mental disorder
ONLY comes from family.

.There you have it, ladies and gentlemen. We have put forward two more arguments on
why we consider (topic title). Before I rest my case, let me reaffirm our stand that
‘_____________________________________’.

With that, I thank you.

THIRD SPEAKER-(GOVERNMENT)

Thank you Mr./Madam speaker,

A very good morning to the honourable adjudicators, my worthy opponents and members of the
house.

Alas, it’s my turn. As the last speaker I would like to rebut ALL the arguments put forward by the
OPPONENT.

(REBUT- listen to second speakers points and write down what you don’t agree)

The SECOND Minister of the government team said that ---------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------.
We disagree with him/her. We think ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------.
The SECOND SPEAKER also mentioned that ------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------.
We disagree with him/her. We think -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------.

Well, ladies and gentlemen, before I take my seat , let me reaffirm our stand that ‘’
. But let me remind you - Our fight does not end here. My MINISTER will continue to fight for
this motion and you will see how true we are.

With that, I thank you.

REPLY SPEECH (GOVERNMENT)

Thank you Mr./Madam,

A very good morning to the honourable adjudicators, my worthy opponents and members of the house.
Before I deliver our Reply Speech, let me rebut the points made by the Government once and for all.
(Use third speaker’s note ) -- 2 min ONLY!! I would like to rebut the opposition’s case.

Now let me sum up what we have presented in a nutshell. First our

Prime Minister has defined the topic as ‘ This house agrees that kids mental disorder are caused
ONLY by wrong models in the family
Then, (I/he/she) also went to present our first argument, that is Kids mental disorder is caused
by trauma.

Childhood mental illness may be a reaction to environmental stresses, including trauma like
being the victim of verbal, physical, sexual abuse or any bad environment within family
members.
It’s definitely true that kids mental disorder are caused by trauma.sexual harassment physically
abused can lead to the stressful life for the kids.

Then,( I as / The second speaker) presented two more arguments.:

One-Mental illness in families

Mental illnesses in parents represent a risk for children in the family. These children
have a higher risk for developing mental illnesses than other children. When both
parents are mentally ill, the chance is even greater that the child might become mentally
ill.

This potentially risking the mental of the kids who are having a mental parents. As
conclusion genetically the kids will presumably having 90%genetic from their mental
parents and this will definitely lead the kids to a mental disorder.

Two- parental controlling

Not allowing a child to make their own decisions, invading their privacy and creating
dependence, were all found to harm a child's mental wellbeing. The most common
problem by not letting the children to choose what they actually want will cause a mental
disorder to the kids and end up they will have a depressed.

As a word of advice, let us not be deceived by the definition and arguments given by the government. The
topic is and remains ‘ This house agrees that kids mental disorder are caused ONLY by wrong
models in the family’.
With that, I thank you
WARNING SIGNS FOR KIDS MENTAL DISORDER

● Mood changes. Look for feelings of sadness or withdrawal that last at least
● two weeks or severe mood swings that cause problems in relationships at
home or school.
● Intense feelings. Be aware of feelings of overwhelming fear for no reason —
sometimes with a racing heart or fast breathing — or worries or fears intense
enough to interfere with daily activities.
● Behavior changes. These include drastic changes in behavior or personality,
as well as dangerous or out-of-control behavior. Fighting frequently, using
weapons and expressing a desire to badly hurt others also are warning signs.
● Difficulty concentrating. Look for signs of trouble focusing or sitting still,
both of which might lead to poor performance in school.
● Unexplained weight loss. A sudden loss of appetite, frequent vomiting or
use of laxatives might indicate an eating disorder.
● Physical symptoms. Compared with adults, children with a mental health
condition might develop headaches and stomachaches rather than sadness
or anxiety.
● Physical harm. Sometimes a mental health condition leads to self-injury, also
called self-harm. This is the act of deliberately harming your own body, such
as cutting or burning yourself. Children with a mental health condition also
might develop suicidal thoughts or attempt suicide.
● Substance abuse. Some kids use drugs or alcohol to try to cope with their
feelings.
