Appendix A

FAN COIL UNITS

• Fan coil units shall be provided and installed in the locations as the site requirements.
The fans shall be direct drive; double inlet forward curved centrifugal type with
impellers and scrolls manufactured from shockproof materials. Impeller blades shall
be of the aerofoil profile.
• The fans shall be driven by totally enclosed motors rated to give the duties required
when supplied with 240 volts, 1 phase 50 Hertz electrical supply. The fan motors
shall have the capability of operating at 3 speeds if so desired.

• The cooling coils shall have aluminum fins mechanically bonded to copper tubes, with
bronze headers. Condensate drain pans shall be provided to collect condensate from
the coil headers and connections. A condensate drain trap shall be provided at the
outlet of each drain pan.

• The fan coil unit casing shall be manufactured from galvanized sheet steel, internally
insulated to discourage noise and for thermal insulation. Access panels shall be
provided on each unit to facilitate ease of maintenance of internal components.

• All filters shall be ofthe washable type as supplied by the unit manufacturer (synthetic
media type).

• All recessed units shall be connected to distribution ductwork to air terminals with
flexible connections as detailed elsewhere in this Specification.

• Noise level for the moving parts shall be less to or equal 35dp.
• Controllers for FCUs shall be wall mounted with temperature controller, speed
selector/on-off switch and 'on' indicator.
• Electrical thermostats shall have contacts rated sufficiently high for the switched load.
For loads above the contact rating, relays must be utilized.
