THINGS YOU CAN RELATE TO IF YOU HAVE AN ELDER

SISTER
The bond between sisters is a covalent bond, the strongest of all. Having an elder sister is one
of the best and the most annoying thing in the world. Siblings share a weird relationship with
each other, which is much more complex than solving mathematical problems. They annoy
each other yet care the most for each other. Having 2 siblings one elder sister and a younger
brother is never bliss. Being the second born child I felt the most ignored one all the time.
The eldest one remains the favorite of the parents throughout life and the youngest one holds
the privilege of being the youngest amongst the three of us. The middle child is overlooked
all the time. The best time in a second born child's life is the one when the youngest was not
born. But unfortunately, I was too small to have remembered the golden period of my life.
The second born child always gets bullied by the eldest and gets scolded for the deeds of the
youngest. Oh, so miserable life! But as I grew up the bond between me and my sister got
stronger. We used to fight a lot but things used to patch up real quick. She became the icing
to my cake and the keeper of my secrets. Here are things which you can relate if you have an
Elder sister :

1. She is your fashion Icon: I always grew up following the footsteps of my sister. She had a
collection of trendy clothes, accessories, and shoes, which was a treasure to me. But it was
her property and trespassers would have to face serious consequences. She was an inspiration
as well as an adviser for transforming my hideous appearance into a fashion diva. I wonder
how I would have acquired a bit of fashion sense without her.

2. The Strict no sharing rule: An elder sister never allows you to barge in her territory. My
mother witnessed long fights between us just for a dress. I would cry to borrow a dress or
some makeup from her. But she always remained reluctant to share. A solution I came up
with, was to sneak up in her room and borrow her clothes without asking for them. And it
worked sometimes and the other times I get caught.

3. She is the perfect shoulder to cry on: Whenever I used to get disheartened, my sister was
the first person I would go to.No matter how much we fight, she always cheered me up. She
was the sail in a windy night which kept the boat afloat. From bad breakups to bad grades she
was always there for me.
4.Your best friend since childhood: Growing up with a sister makes you the closet pals for
the rest of your lives. You can share anything and everything with her without the fear of
getting judged. Since you two have lived in the same house for years, who would know you
better than her? You can chill with her, she can warn you about a bad friend or a boyfriend,
she helps you in your assignments and just stays there whenever you need her.

5. Her old stuff becomes your new stuff: The old clothes and books of my sister were never
discarded. They were passed on as a legacy to me. Whenever I insisted on getting some new
clothes, my mother used to take out a pile of clothes from my sister's cupboard and hand it
over to me. This is the most annoying thing ever, I used to wear her altered clothes while she
enjoyed the new ones frequently.

6. She always enjoys picking up on you: The smaller sister acts as an unpaid servant to the
elder one. She commands and you have to follow or else face the wrath of your parents. It is
the tradition in Indian families that disrespecting elders is like a sin. Taking advantage of it,
my sister made me do her share of work and I cannot refuse to do so. Amongst the most
annoying things were to bring a glass of water every time she wants, switch on or switch off
the fan, giving the television remote whenever she demands and the list goes on. The elder
sister finds a certain kind of joy in teasing you in front of your friends and family.
Embarrassing the younger siblings is her specialty.

7. She acts as a mother: Though an elder sister is annoying in many ways she cares like a
mother. she scolds you for not studying and prevents you from bad influences. She ensures
that the people around you are good for you. She may not express her emotions out loud but
she can never stand anyone else hurting or insulting you. She gives a piece of her mind to the
person who tries to harm you. Well, this is the essence of sisterhood.

8. She is a secret keeper: An elder sister has seen you grow from the day you were born. She
understands you and all your secrets are safe with her. Though she may blackmail you at
times to barter some service in return for keeping the secret safe. But that is how it works, so
just keep doing her stuff and nothing will spill out of her mouth.

9. Being in the same school always works out well for you: When you and your sister are
in the same school then you can have an edge over others. Because of a reputation created by
your sister, you are well known by the teachers and so you are kind of popular among
students too. What a moment of pride it is, when your name in on the tip of your teacher's
tongue.
10.Fighting for silly things is a routine: The house with 3 siblings is not a quiet place to live
in. Neighbors get habitual of the incessant fights between the siblings all day long. There are
fights about who gets the biggest piece of the desert or who gets the last slice of pizza.
Sometimes the food saved to savor in another moment is gone in the blink of an eye. The
television always remains a hot spot for fights. There are timing slots for every person in the
house. But my sister has to binge watch when it's my turn and so the never-ending fight for
the T.V remote starts.

11. She is missed when not around: The house feels quiet when your sister is not around.
The moment you always wish to have comes true but you kind of miss your sister. Maybe
you become accustomed to the way of life you live with her. You miss those fights and the
patch-ups, the makeovers, the long night chats, the gossips and every moment you had with
her. Being in another corner of the world you still wish to relive those moments and cherish
the long gone moments again.
