SCOPE AND LIMITATION

The study aimed to produce carboxymethyl cellulose from mung bean

pods through pretreatment of raw materials (washing, size reduction),
mercerization, etherification and purification. Aside from the project study, it
includes the market study, experimental and technical study. The industrial – scale
material and energy balances, unit operations and processes involved are also
taken into consideration in this research. Also, the piping system of steam and the
process control instrumentation were also indicated.

For the experimental study, it is done on a laboratory scale and will be

performed at PLDTSFH ChE Laboratory. Also, the testing of the raw materials’
properties, intermediates and products will also be included in the study. The data
gathered from the experimental study will be used in the technical study where
the researchers will design different equipment used in unit operations and
processes.

For the market study, the analyses of supply and demand of the product
were performed. Data on supply and demand for 2012 - 2018 were collected from
Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and
Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). These data were then
projected for ten years using five projection method for the marketability of the
product.

Economic aspects such as cost estimation of the plant, total capital

investment and the pricing of the product will not be covered and the study will
only focus on equipment design.
