PAGASA, one of the attached agencies of the Department of Science and

Technology (DOST) under its Scientific and Technical Services Institutes, is mandated to

“provide protection against natural calamities and utilize scientific knowledge as an

effective instrument to insure the safety, well being and economic security of all the

people, and for the promotion of national progress.”

PAGASA has a wide variety of studies that circling around mainly in science,

geophysics and astronomy. They assess and evaluate the collection of data in the

atmosphere and being processed to give benefits to agriculture, commerce and industry.

They are engaged in maintaining a nationwide network in observation and forecasting of

weather and flood and other conditions affecting the national safety, welfare and

economy.

It has been a good opportunity to be able to visit a company related to our subject

course and be able to witness the application written and studied as a theory in school.

The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) shall maintain and

continuously improve a regulatory regime conducive to the development and provision of

an affordable, viable, reliable and accessible telecommunications infrastructure and

services. By 2015, the National Telecommunication Commission (NTC) shall be a

stronger and more pro-active regulatory agency able to steer the telecommunications

sector as a primary engine for national progress and development.

The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) provides, installs, operate

and conduct the Necessity/Provisional Authority for telecommunications, broadcast and

CATV services. They also issue licenses to operate land, maritime, aeronautical and

safety devices.

Mostly, NTC issues licenses, laws, rules and regulations where they can also be

entertaining issues regarding to the telecommunications services and impose proper or

appropriate penalties or sanctions to those network providers. It was fun learning this

scope of our course where we can provide better solutions to customers.

Globe Telecom, Inc. (GLO) was originally incorporated on January 16, 1935 as

Globe Wireless Limited with a franchise to operate wireless long-distance services in the

Philippines. The Company eventually changed its name to the present one in 1992, and

welcomed Singapore Telecom, Inc. as a new foreign partner to the following year.

On May 30, 2016, the Board of GLO approved the acquisition of 50% of Vega

Telecom, Inc. (VTI) from San Miguel Corporation, with Philippine Long Distance

Telephone Company (TEL) acquiring the remaining 50% interest. VTI owns an equity in

Liberty Telecom Holdings, Inc. (LIB) as well as in enfranchised companies including Bell

Telecommunication Philippines, Inc.; Eastern Telecom Philippines, Inc.; Express

Telecom, Inc.; and Tori Spectrum Telecom, Inc.; among others.

GLO is making sure that the customers are satisfied with the services they

provided. They are expanding their network to the far-flung areas of the city to make

everyone connected and make everyone updated with our day-to-day lives. The process

of sending and receiving a single text message, one call and also the frequencies within

range and bandwidth used was also discussed and explained during the visit.

As the provider of Electro Mechanics Solutions that integrate control technology

with machine and electronic technology, MinibeaMitsumi Inc. is engaged in unique, “only

one” manufacturing that combines a broad range of advanced technologies – form high

precision machine processing technologies such as bearings, to motors, sensors,

semiconductors, and wireless technologies – to expand the realm of common sense by

creating a new value through difference. We will continue to strive to create products that

will contribute to an IoT society where all things are connected.

I do not have any idea what this company is all about. But when we visited the

company, I saw machines and even sneak a peak of what they are doing and what

materials they are making of. In the field of electronics, we do not need to focus on one

thing, this company manufactures to bearing, motors, camera actuator and several

materials that connects everything to everyone. Even in a small component or material,

the material will be useless without it, so MinibeaMitsumi is making sure that even in a

slightest detail the customer or company will be satisfied with their machines or device.

An Internet Protocol address (IP address) is a numerical label assigned to each

device connected to a computer network that uses the Internet Protocol for

communication. It is a set of standard predefined rules used to govern the way data

packets are sent over the internet. For two devices to communicate, they must be able to

find each other. For two devices to find each other, they must know their location.

The seminar taught us about the functions and uses of IP address. It has different

class with different numerical range. The speaker speaks confidently because it his field

of expertise and works industrially in other countries.

Arduino was born at the Ivrea Interaction Design Institute as easy tool for fast

prototyping, aimed at students without a background in electronics and programming. As

soon as it reached a wider community, the Arduino board started changing to adapt to

new needs and challenges, differentiating its offer from simple 8-bit boards to products

for IoT applications, wearable, 3D printing, and embedded environments.

Arduino is accessible and easy-to-use for beginners, yet flexible enough for

advanced users. As we emerged in this modern technology, these microcontrollers

change the way of performing and thinking of students of how they can use these

advances in school or in work.
