Anthropomorphism, Parody,

Pun, and Satire


Anthropomorphism: the attribution of human
characteristics or behavior to a god, animal, or object.

● The White Rabbit: Dressed up, checks his watch, owns a house,
etc
● The birds: Hold a race
● Other examples: the Jungle Book, Disney characters: Mickey
and Minnie Mouse etc.
Pun: a joke exploiting the different possible
meanings of a word, or the fact that there are words
that sound alike but have different meanings.

● 'Mine is a long and a sad tale!' said the Mouse, turning to Alice, and
sighing.

'It is a long tail, certainly,' said Alice, looking down with wonder at
the Mouse's tail' 'but why do you
call it sad?' (Chapter 3)
Satire:the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or
ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or
vices, particularly over controversial topics.

● The Dodo’s Caucus race is a form of political satire.


○ Caucus: a meeting of party members within a legislative body to
selectleaders and determine strategy.
○ The birds decide to physically run a race, but it illustrates political
races.
Parody: an imitation of the style of a particular writer,
artist, or genre with deliberate exaggeration for comic
effect.
