The main typesof industry
There're a wide varietyof industrialactivities...
- Heavyindustry:large factories carry out the primary processing of raw materials.
+ Semi-heavy industry: uses products produced by heavy industry to manufacture
capital goods.
- Light industry: produces most of the items we use on a daily basis.
- Traditionalactivities: with a very labour-
intensive in their processes.
- High-tech activities: these depend on research
and development(R+D)= (I+D)
Most industry uses electrical powerin its manufacturing processes.
Electricity is a traditional source of energy but it comesalso from the
renewableenergy.
OIL > is the most commonly used energy source becauseit providesgases, petrol, diesel, asphalt,
etc. There're limited oil reserves that are in Venezuela, Middle East, Canada, Russia, Libya, United
States and Nigeria.
COAL > was the most commonly used energy source during the Industrial Revolution. It's used to
producedelectricity in coal-fired powerstation.
NATURALGAS> is usedin gas-fired powerstations and for heating. There're limited reserves, but
more thanthoseofoil (Russia, Iran, Qatar and Turkeminstan).
NUCLEAR ENERGY> is used to moveturbines which generate electricity. Nuclear accidents cause
significant damage. The main producers are France and United States.
