INTRODUCTION
A broiler is any chicken (Gallus gallus domesticus) that is bred and raised specifically
for meat production. Most commercial broilers reach slaughter weight between four and
seven weeks of age, although slower growing breeds reach slaughter weight at
approximately 14 weeks of age. Due to extensive breeding selection for rapid early growth
and the husbandry used to sustain this, broilers are susceptible to several welfare concerns,
particularly skeletal malformation and dysfunction, skin and eye lesions and congestive heart
conditions. Management of ventilation, housing, stocking density and in-house procedures
must be evaluated regularly to support good welfare of the flock. The breeding stock (broiler-
breeders) do grow to maturity but also have their own welfare concerns related to the
frustration of a high feeding motivation and beak trimming. Broilers are usually grown as
mixed-sex flocks in large sheds under intensive conditions.
OBJECTIVES
The students were tasked to perform and evaluation of the housing for swine
production using the Philippine Agricultural Engineering Standards.

Location
- No problems were seen for location except for the farmhouse being located at the
front of the broiler house. But the farmer said that, “Hindi naman masyadong nakakaapekto
samin lalo na yung amoy.”
There were little or no problems encountered with other requirements and standards.
CONLCUSION
Kuya Abel has mostly invested his farm to swine production. Since his poultry
business has gone down, he had to go to his alternative. He started raising 2 pigs then his
pigs’ numbers went up and his business got stable. Even though he hasn’t any equipment
for a modern piggery, but with careful management he has achieved a blooming swine
business.
RECOMMENDATION
Proper equipment and sanitation must be made and put in the farm for better farming
experience and better profit.
