Rothy's shoes are made from 100% recycled plastic water bottles and post-consumer recycled
materials. As of March 2019 the company had repurposed 25 million water bottles in the making
of their products. Rothy's shoes' uppers are computer knit around a last in a single piece. This
yields seamless uppers with minimal waste. They are machine-washable.
Rothy's makes a number of silhouettes for women, including The Flat, The Point, The Loafer
and The Sneaker. In 2018 the company launched a children's version of the brand’s loafer
silhouette and slip-on sneakers for kids in 2019. The shoes have been well-received by fashion
critics, particularly for their comfort and environmental sustainability.

A Research on the Feasability of Plippers as

Alternative Footwear
Common slippers are made of rubber which has almost the same feature for plastic bottles

except for the fact that it is harder. The use of plastic bottles for some researches is very common

like plastic bottles as bricks and many more. The difference of our study or research with them is

that we expanded the idea of recycling plastic bottles to use it on our daily basis such as slippers.

Plastic waste is silent threat to the environment and their disposal is a serious issue for waste

managers. Now a day society does not have any alternative to plastic products like plastic bags,

plastic bottles, and plastic sheets etc. In spite of all efforts made to limit its use but unfortunately

its utility is increasing day by day. To circumvent this issue many efforts were made in the past to

reuse the plastic waste but no significant results were achieved. On contrary concrete being the

widely used construction material is facing problem due to unavailability of construction material

(Cement, sand and coarse aggregate). Various attempts were made through experimentation to

check the feasibility of plastic waste to be use partially in concrete with respect to various

properties of strength, workability, durability and ductility of concrete. This paper includes review

of various studies conducted on utility of waste plastic material used in the concrete. Moreover

this paper will draw our focus toward the impingement on the various properties of concrete when

partially replacing with waste plastic.

Our product to be is not only made out of plastic bottles, we will also use the used wheels,

styro and many more. This is to contribute to our environmental problems and at the same time to

finish our project. And also, lots of people can’t afford to buy a pair of slippers due to financial

problems. Some children are going to school without slippers, wandering in the streets without

slippers and these things might cause them to have severe illness like tetano, fungus, Athlete's

Foot, Gout and many more. Slippers might be small or invalueble for many but slippers are needed

for everyone, it doesn’t have to be expensive, fancy or even branded. The value of wearing a

slipper is to protect our feet from the harm of ther streets or the grounds might give us

With our research, everybody would be able to produce their own slipper in their own way,

own style and many more. They can create their slipper with their own ideas and design. They

won’t need much money to produce it; all they need is their will and mind to create. This study has

been conducted already by a lot of people in Africa, USA and many more countries. One of those

researches follows:

A US footwear startup is selling new shoes that aren't new at all. Like the Adidas x Parley,

Rothy's shoes are knitted using yarn made from recycled plastic bottles. They also boast carbon-

free outsoles, insoles and packaging that are recycled and can be fully recycled when no longer

needed. Rothy's is based in San Francisco, California, and says its shoes are the result of three
3

years of research and product development and are the first line of fashion footwear to

make use of a three dimensional seamless knit process. To begin with, the yarn used to knit the

shoe uppers is made entirely from certified polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles. These are

stripped of any caps and labels, hot washed and then processed into the filament fiber that becomes

yarn. The yarn is treated with a wicking agent to drive moisture away from the foot. The result is

said to be a soft fiber that creates a breathable upper, with around three recycled bottles going into

each shoe. Using a proprietary process, Rothy's machine knits the shoes into their 3D shape,

helping to minimize waste resulting from cut patterns, irregularities and defects. The upper is then

heat-set into its shape using "lasts," or molds, and combined with the outsole and a cushioned

insole to complete the shoe. Rothy's inaugural collection is available in two styles and in 17

different color combinations. They are also machine washable, if only occasionally. At the end of

its wearable life, each pair of the shoes can be recycled. Customers need only download a shipping

form online and send the shoes to Rothy's recycling partner PLUS foam. Rothy's launched last

month. Its two The Flat and The Point styles will retail for $125 and $145, respectively.
